So sorry Patch was found to be so ill and couldn't stay with you. You know you did your best and he had been loved and well cared for well, creating many good memories for you to call on in the future.

Take care, let yourself grieve, you will miss him day by day but remember Rainbow Bridge.

Patch's test werent good, he had two masses one 12 cm in his small intestines and another mass in his spleen. He has never been ill only this last 10 days. He was a solid dog (staffie) that went to nothing in less then a week. The vet said there are sometime no side effects illnessess with masses until the end.

We thought it best to not let him suffer anymore and he is now at peace.

Talking about he hadnt ate for 10 days, we tried all sorts with him, the vet gave him a bowl of chicken which he ate. Can you believe that made me look as if I hadnt tried feeding him.

Also he didnt need his whole dose of drug for him to go so he must of been tired and poorly.

It is so painful to lose them, but that reflects the joy and companionship, and everything else they have given us, and I hope we have given them.

It hurts so much, and no pet can ever replace another, but the very pain we feel, demonstrates the capacity we have for a special relationship with our pets (I feel like saying family members, because to me that's what mine are), and if circumstances permit, when we are ready, maybe like Shirley we can give another animal the chance to be homed and loved, whether they are loving softies or cantankerous, bossy, awkward so and sos.... <3

Still miss our beautiful cat Mirabelle who we lost last July . Get a tear sometimes taking about her and to her as her picture is my PC. Screensaver .

We did decide a couple of months ago that maybe we could think about getting another cat although at the time we lost her we both said never again as its too painful.

Mr Tibbs is settled in nicely and is a lively but loving two year old moggy . He is a really nice cat and he follows me around and I get the laying on me treatment in the mornings at about 7 am . He then makes a nuisance of himself belting around until I give in and get up and feed him

Hope the vet can help your dog share more quality time wth you. It's such a hard decision to make when our pets mean so much to us

I had a lovely dog for 14 years and was very well loved by my children. My children were hysterical when we had to put her down. That was 25 years ago and vowed never ever to get another dog. We did get another baby and that was 6 years ago when she was 8 weeks. All my children now grown up and gone, but still Boo is part of there life as they look after her when I go away. My grandkids love her so really back to where we were. A pet is for life and if you can keep them for life you are a perfect pet owner. Feeling for you Anne xx

I always wonder ....................

we can make these decisions for our pets, as we should ...................

but we're not allowed to make them for ourselves?

and yes, I have made decisions to let a pet go, and found it so hard.

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 1 Sep 2015 15:01

I hope he can be helped, and have some more good time left to him.

I still feel that when it comes to making the hard final decision it is better for the pet's sake to err on the side of making it a wee bit too soon, than a wee bit too late. It's what's best for the pet that matters, however hard it can be for the human part of the family to let go.

I so hope he can make it back to his old self from this. <3

it's heartbreaking when you have to make that decision - over the years I've cried buckets over dogs - one in particular over sixty years ago still haunts me :-( <3 <3
