The best thing that ever came out of Middlesboro' was the rock singer Chris Rea. He is also a truly nice guy and very charitable.

His father was an immigrant ice cream seller.

From wiki:
"Chris Rea was born on 4 March 1951, in Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire, England, to Italian British father, Camillo Rea (died December 2010 and an Irish mother, Winifred K. Slee (died September 1983).The name Rea was well known locally thanks to the chain of Rea's Ice Cream café-shops and factory owned by Rea's father. He has two brothers, Nick and Mike, and four sisters, Catherine, Geraldine, Paula, and Camille"

Maybe JoyBoroAngel dislikes ice cream.

My favorite tho' not his biggest hit.

Some girls used to kiss and run
Never knew what they had done
Some girls always wasted time
Keep you hanging on the line
Some loved horses and always stayed at home
But the Stainsby girls loved the Rolling Stones

Now some had games that you had to play
Making rules along the way
Strange attractions newly found
Pride and passion kicked around
Some girls stole your heart
Like most girls do
But a Stainsby girls could break it in two

And I fell in love, I fell in love
I fell in love with a Stainsby girl

Deepest water Stainsby blue
Names and faces fade away
Memories here to stay

And I fell in love, I fell in love
I fell in love with a Stainsby girl

:-)

Aw! I thought I was the best thing to ever come out of Middlesbro'. But please spell it right, Rollo, it's a bro' not a boro'.

I knew Chris well years ago when his dad ran the ice cream shop
He used to ask me for a kiss over the counter
but I always said no way

But the truth is the best thing that came out the Boro
was the iron and steel
that helped build the world and make it as it is today
and the Railways

Oh and not to forget Fadgies

Stainsby was an all a girls school here

Boro is spelt Boro where I live

MargaretM Report 7 Sep 2015 14:18

Oh yes, how I loved Whitby as a child! We went there often. I remember the 199 steps up to the abbey. In later years when I started this genealogy lark I was thrilled to find out that my gt. grandmother was born in Whitby. (My avatar's wife) I wondered if that's why I loved Whitby so much, it was in my blood.

I'd say that the best thing to come out of Middlesbrough is my OH :-D

No, he wasn't born there, but worked at Gurney House, Middlesbrough until he got a job in Norfolk in 1983 - and never looked back :-D ;-)
