Towards the beginning of this thread, AnnCardiff mentioned that the number of Sainsbury’s plastic bags decorating near by trees had virtually disappeared.

Paying special attention to the trees surrounding our Sainsbury’s car park today, I couldn’t spot even one. Either the SEN trolley collector has extended his pride in ‘his’ car park to the perimeter or offending bags are being dropped in the surrounding roads.

no wonder they call them "bags for life" - I have a pile of them in the boot!!! :-D

Many moons ago when we originally paid for carrier bags, my lovely mom, who sadly is no longer with us would happily hand over the appropriate charge and promptly turn the bag inside out. I remember her telling puzzled looking cashiers " I don't mind paying for a bag but I'm not paying to advertise for you"

Makes me smile every time I think of it. :-D

I use morrisons bags in tescos or sainsburys, anywherd I need to, same as tescos in sainsburys and vice versa, depends which ones I grab when I am packing my shop.

You used to get points regardless of the origin of the bag

Currently there is a large Lakeland Plastic bag for life in the handbag I'm using. Other bags have cloth ones in them - one is an Ancestry bag picked up from WDYTYA a few years ago. The other is a 'Childrens charity' bag given out at the County Show.

Von, never heard of Tesco, have they a franchise in Harrods?: :-D.

For little things, I just put them in my handbag, and with food shopping I don't faff about with bags to wrap stuff in, if it doesn't need it, I just bung it all in as few a bags as possible, saves time when I get home,. Can you tell, I hate food shopping :-D

5p for say a £8 sweater isn't too bad. Can't work out the %age this early in the morning, but it's less than 1.
I'd rather pay than risk putting new clothing in a grubby bag of my own.

Think what fun there is to be had putting goods in their competitors bags ;-) ;-) ;-)

Lynda - put your caviar in a Tesco bag :-D

Fortnum and Mason bags are meant to be biodegradable but they take about three years to break down. :-0

I always take shopping bags with me but won't be able to 'impulse' buy too much in future :-|

But I will be very cross if I don't get new clothes put into some sort of bag - I don't want it mixed in with my melting frozen food etc. But when buying charity shop clothes I do put them in my own bag because I know I am going to wash it.

From time to time I do an online shop from Sainbury . When they deliver they use umpteen plastic bags some of which have only one item in it . I often remark on the waste of bags to the driver .

I do re use them at the moment because Mr Tibbs our new cat still has a litter tray for overnight so after cleaning out any smellies I change the tray daily or every other day depending on its use .

If I get charged for every bag sainbury send my shopping in I won't be amused

When I go shopping I have always used my own bags including a cool bag for freezer and fridge goods plus a large boot size green bag that has the other good s in that can be lifted out of the trolley and into the car boot . Bought too yonks ago a bottle bag which can hold 6 bottles in compartments .
Have too some spare shopping bags in the boot just in case . But have been known to pop in for one item and come out with 6 and no bag with me so have a folded down Tesco heavy duty shopping bag in my handbag . Hard luck Sainbury when I am a shopping in yours with a Tesco bag

So I do try to do my bit but sainbury waste of bags gets me every time

For a long time I have carried four or five plastic carrier bags folded small inside another bag but I do have a large handbag/shoulder bag so there is room for small items too like tv mag. I also carry a clothing size bag folded, in case I am not given a bag. I started carrying the usual size bags when you got points at the supermarket. Also it's always handy in case there is no bin when out if you have sandwich wrapping up, drink cartons etc, to 'take your rubbish home with you'

Aldi do good strong bags for 38p I keep a couple in the boot.

Of course I do, where else does one buy it Ann?

I've just had a bit of luck, about to order some online from Harrods and I find this....

Black Russian Caspian Beluga Caviar 3 Jars (339g, 12oz) - €158,90 - €129,00

Bloomin' bargain if ever I saw one :-D

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 8 Sep 2015 20:46

The light bulb "savings" are a joke aren't they Maggie.

I'm trying to imagine going into maybe Harrods food hall, to buy a nice bit of caviar for my tea, and the assistant says " that'll be £426.76 please Madam, oh, and 10p for the plastic bag ??

I've been saving M&S bags that I've bought clothes in, to re-use, only to realise they're bio degradable! So can't even save money that way.
Yet another poxy unthought through idea - like the 'energy saving' lightbulbs that cost more, and blow faster than the 'old' ones :-| :-|

People with bags on them are very organised :-D I have lots of bags in my car, all sizes, but as I rarely know if I'll shop, they stay in the car :-)

Ann do you mean if you had fish in your bag and you put a cabbage in the same bag, the shop would charge for the bag?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 19:38

Meat, fish, blades in free bags but there can't be anything in the bag that wouldn't qualify for a free bag.
