Sharron

Sharron Report 14 Sep 2015 17:05

They can enjoy their muck without me today. Just like they do every year.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 14 Sep 2015 16:45

They'd definitely be pigs in muck though! :-D

Sharron

Sharron Report 14 Sep 2015 12:30

Won't be looking today.

Not going out in this just to see some pigs!

Hello Sharron, we go there to see the piglets too. We have always found some on the Lydnhurst Road from Burley to the juction with the A35. There is a pull off place with toilets and picnic tables on the left called Anderwood.

We usually go mid October to find them.

Happy pannaging :-)

Sharron

Sharron Report 13 Sep 2015 16:48

I am not going in there then.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 13 Sep 2015 16:09

Plenty of wild boar in the Forest of dean all the time Sharron :-D

Sharron

Sharron Report 13 Sep 2015 16:01

They bring them back home at the end of the pannage.

I think the horses, cattle and donkeys stay out all the time.

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 13 Sep 2015 15:59

Yeah will still be a nice walk out, do they collect pigs back in or just leave them out

Sharron

Sharron Report 13 Sep 2015 15:56

Different people let them out at different places at different times.

Oh well, if I still don't see any pigs, I still will have been down the forest.

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 13 Sep 2015 15:44

Go as they release them, you might spot one then lol,

Sharron

Sharron Report 13 Sep 2015 14:45

Thank you Rollo, but I have consulted that site, it was how I found the date for this years pannage.

As I have explained before, it was inside information as to where I might see the pigs that I was seeking.

Sharron

Sharron Report 13 Sep 2015 14:43

I am sure it must be Stray. I just never have.

Just spoken to the driver.
I was right about Fritham - something I heard in the pub. A woman came in and said a sow was giving birth in the ditch. ' Oh b*ugger', replied the man next to me, as he downed his pint. He reappeared an hour later, saying the sow was fine, 8 piglets.

Best place for pannaging pigs is Boldrewood, north end of the Ornamental drive.
Castle Malwood, left to Stoney Cross, past the garage, past the Canadian War Memorial, Boldrewood (apparently - blokes directions)!
A keeper there regularly lets his, and his children's pigs out.
Also the aerodrome on the way to Fritham (if you go to the pub, look for the fairy door, in the tree. I only noticed it last year)
Give the pigs a week or two to settle in.

Outskirts of Brockenhurst are usually quite good too. More info later :-D

I can't see how the pig is healthy if it has been eaten. :-(

Sharron Report 12 Sep 2015 22:12

Thank you Joy,

Really, I am looking for a bit of inside information.

I know where I usually can see cattle and donkeys in the forest but I was hoping that somebody would be able to tell me a place or two that the pigs like to visit more than other places.

Joy Report 12 Sep 2015 21:25

You are correct, the season starts on Monday.

The pigs may be seen anywhere that they have been let loose by Commoners in the New Forest.

Thank you Rollo.

Really, I will drive very carefully to these wooded, muddy places if you will just give me dome indication of where they might be.

I'm not going to the New Forest tomorrow, Sharron, but my driver goes quite often, as he lives out that way, is retired, likes walking, and visits a mutual friend
I'll ask him/ them to report back.

'Tuts' Perhaps, as he was born in the Forest I should give him Rollo's advice, though once there, he prefers to walk.
As for the one who lives there, let's use the old generalization 'The locals are the worst'. Fortunately, if I patronized him in such way, I know I can outrun him :-D

In my experience, in a coming together of an animal and a vehicle, it's normally the animal that fails to stay alive.
