oops sorry Guin...........

I HAD posted..........

likewise, if the women stopped doing it............

which ain't gonna happen, methinks......

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 19 Sep 2015 08:13

Of course it won't. In a male dominated society the women do as they are told or get punished.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 19 Sep 2015 05:54

It's carried out by women because it's what the men want. Men in that culture want their wives to be "cut". Women mutilate their daughters so that they will find husbands in a society where women are dominated and oppressed.

http://www.endfgm.eu/en/female-genital-mutilation/what-is-fgm/why-is-it-practised/

If the men didn't want their wives mutilated then it would stop in a generation.

thanks Sharron for confirming that...........my hidden thoughts were that not ALL abuse is committed by men

Sharron

Sharron Report 19 Sep 2015 00:04

I think that the most awful thing about the appalling abuse of FGM is that it is carried out against these little girls by WOMEN!

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 18 Sep 2015 22:19

All abuse should be treated exactly the same :-( :-(

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 18 Sep 2015 22:14

And qualified what he meant with his following words - a case heard this week.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 18 Sep 2015 22:14

yes true, I'll give myself 100 lines.........

"I MUST read the OP before putting my foot in my mouth"

Haven't been able to do that, though, for MANY years!

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 18 Sep 2015 22:11

Well the OP states 'men who abuse Asian girls'

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 18 Sep 2015 22:11

Of course it's abuse. Stupid question.

The thread was about a specific case involving an Asian man abusing Asian girls.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 18 Sep 2015 22:07

Ok I've slightly gone off topic.......

so that is not abuse then? rather that a religious ritual?

you appear in this topic,to be concentrating of the male abuser rather than ANY abuser......

Barbra

Barbra Report 18 Sep 2015 22:06

Agree Bob .to little to late sometimes .I would chop um off .not allowed to say what just upsets me .they wouldn't do it again

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 18 Sep 2015 22:03

The discussion was about Asian girls being abused.

FGM is almost entirely inflicted on girls of African origin. Hence I see no connection.

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 18 Sep 2015 22:03

This was not my view. It was something I read in the paper, (not the Mail) and actually disagree with. I think most sentences for assault on girls are far too light, whatever their ethnicity.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 18 Sep 2015 22:01

don't you think that THAT is abuse? or don't you know what it entails........?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 18 Sep 2015 21:45

The judge was Sally Cahill, not exactly an Asian name. And the one who upheld the sentence was Justice Walker, I don't think he's Asian either. Rose has already given the names.

Of course assault is assault. The Mail isn't known for its accuracy in reporting and I'm wondering if the judge said that as an Asian man the guilty man would have known how the community would have viewed it and thus he deserved a heavy sentence.

Not sure why Bobtanian raised the subject of FGM.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 18 Sep 2015 21:40

well that's the parents

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 18 Sep 2015 21:35

what about those involved in FGM?

Barbra

Barbra Report 18 Sep 2015 21:18

Utter rubbish an assault is what it is .doesn't matter who against was the judge Asian ? same law for All

Rambling Report 18 Sep 2015 21:05

Goes without saying that "Asian girls" can of course also be "British girls",

imo the sentences should be as tough ( and that is very tough) whoever is the victim, whether they were born here or not.
