My friend is trying to see if this address still exists as it did in 1902. When a marriage took place. Thank you.
30 Galt Street. Limehouse. St Pancras

Limehouse is East London, St Pancras is North London

EDITED - because I looked up number 20 instead of 30.

In the 1901 census it has 30 Galt Street, Limehouse, Stepney and the Davey, Mills and Nash families live there.

The address doesn't come up in the 1911 census.

It sounds like she may not be reading the marriage certificate correctly, maybe the name of the street isn't clear ? and did the marriage take place in either Limehouse or St Pancras, and whichever it was, perhaps where the Bride and or groom lived was the the other place?

That's strange Mistycat.

I've just searched using Andrew Mitchell's name and year of birth and up pops the record. But when I searched just using the address it returned no results!!

I've used just the address search before on the 1911 census and it usually gets results. Don't know why it didn't come up this time.

Hi Bob

The Galt Street E14 you see on your map is the same one that used to be Frederick Street – not the other way round.

The name was actually changed from Frederick Street to Galt Street on 3rd March 1876, the dates on the web list mean ‘before’.

Kind regards

Bruce

Subject: Galt street re naming to frederick street

hullo Bruce,

Galt street Limehouse came up on a post on genes reunited, and a poster posted the link to your rename pages.......

I have a question,

your list shows a re name in 1912 to Frederick street. stepney

I have a 1971-ish geographers A-Z which shows a Galt street at a junction with Salmon Lane and Rhodeswell street,

are these Galts, the same street? do you think, or is the newer Galt street a modern-ish site.....or a re name back to the original......?....it doesn't however exist any more, on Google earth maps

the site is now a zebra crossing with ziggy zag stripes

best regards, Bob
