I wonder if GR needs reminding that they have got to get a
" TECHNICAL RELEASE " to the web-site before they can display a Remembrance Poppy.

Please help me to jog there memories gang.

I in Spain will wear my poppy with pride. I doubt they need reminding.

Poppies have been available in the shops for a week now.

More nudges the better just in-case .

Bob - I thought that initially, but Rememberance Day is always the 2nd Sunday of November - that's only 2 weeks away.

I bought a lovely Poppy brooch, a third of the price went to the British Legion and I always put money in the collection box even though I don't need a paper poppy

I bought a Poppy brooch and I have bought a paper Poppy I shall wear both with pride one my coat and one on my dress or jumper

Whilst they may have been on sale for about a week, the old practice was that they were worn from November 1st until Remembrance Sunday.

Rather like all other things we are getting them on sale earlier every year.

As said before Auntie Beeb and other being over PC/enthusiastic.

Every year I donate direct to the Royal British Legion, but do not wear a poppy. I do not feel the need to have to wear a poppy to show my pride or appreciation. <3

I'm ex army and yes, I do think October a tad early for poppies. I lost some mates and always remember them but don't wear a poppy til start of Novemember

not on sale here until next month.

I was surprised to see UK politicians and newscasters wearing poppies last week, far too early in my mind.


as for GR .................. the last person is in the office, and will turn out the lights soon.


In other words ....... don't get hung up on them putting up poppies or not.

but remembrance DAY to my mind is the 11th hour of the 11 day of 11th month!

Remembrance Day is always honored on the 11th day of the 11th month .............. all parades and cenotaph ceremonies take place on that day.

For me it has always started the last week of October after the clocks go back. Winter arrives and Remembrance starts.

Does it matter how or when as long as we remember?

I too served and OH served for almost 25 years, we remember and wear our poppies. They are on sale out here and people are wearing them now. My paper poppy goes on my jackets and my brooch on my tops/dresses.

Lest we forget.

Poppies are on the counters of most shops in the village. I am wearing one with great pride. It won't be the only one that I buy because I seem to lose them or go out in a different jacket and I then choose to buy another poppy.
My Sister bought me a pretty broach-type poppy as a gift and I will wear that too,as I wouldn't want to offend her. A percentage of her purchase money was donated to the Royal British Legion Funds. My Sister has worked for very many years standing in various places selling poppies to the public.
It is my privilege to wear a poppy and attend the service held each year in our village, this is always a very humbling experience. "We will remember them".

on the whole I don't suppose it matters,

There is little point in expecting a thread on General Chat to be noticed by GR staff routinely scouring the boards. Unless, of course, someone reports it.

Poppies have always been on sale in this area last fortnight of Oct also house collections organised by the Royal British Legion.

It is not compulsory to wear a Poppy, everyone remembers the fallen in a different way, having strong links with the forces and having several military camps a stones throw away including the special forces, I'm wearing my Poppy with Pride.

On last years thread on Suggestions, the then Community Manager did say the Poppy would appear this year. Unless it’s been added to some sort of Reminder list, new staff may not remember.

Us Old Foggies, or families with current or recent Military connections, may expect a British organisation to display the symbol. The younger generation may not.
