We have just had our second lot of Trick or Treats, with their parents standing at the top of the drive. Question is, why am I so excited?

I don't mind the trick or treaters. I put nothing outside to encourage anyone, and they usually ignore me. It seems next door and across the road have either a pumpkin for encouragement, or their own relatives going back and forth - bang on door, dogs bark, screaming, door slams. Never usually get this amount - and 'handily' they started after the rugby. Mind you, if you have the 'audacity' to park in an empty spot outside their houses, it can get rally scary!!
What has really got my goat, is one of their 'pranks' was to set off a bl**dy banger. Not expecting it, 2 of my cats were outside (fortunately, the really scared one was inside - now hiding) No doubt these 'jolly' people will have a humdinger of a firework display in their back garden around about Bonfire Night. So, from now until about 10 November, the cats will have to stay in when it gets dark. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

We were happily sitting in the dark when the door bell rings. We ignore it before curiosity gets the better of us.
It turns out to be the 2 girls from next door, 1 of their cousins and both Mums. Suggesting to Mum that next year they give us the 'heads up' in the afternoon, she explains (with eyes rolling) that they've just got back from a half-term break and the girls were fussing about going out.
Its a shame really - although our road/area doesn't 'do' Halloween, if we are expecting to be visited, we'd enter into the spirit for the children's sake. As it is, they probably only got one 'Snowball' each. At least it stops himself from pigging out :-D

there was a bad house fire here on Thursday evening ........
........ "kids" (maybe late teens early 20s) had been letting off fire crackers and roman candles in an intersection.
One must have gone onto the porch of a nearby house 'cos there was another big bang, and it was on fire.
No-one was injured, thank heaven
The house was 105 years old (old for here), and the firework has caused over $500,000 (over £200,000) worth of damage to what had been a beautifully restored and maintained house. That probably means the house will have to be demolished.
Three or four people were seen running away and jumping into a car when that big bang happened.
The police are regarding it as arson, and have a description of some of the guys and of the car.

Kay ...
we haven't anywhere near that many for several years, and in fact have mainly had older kids coming around 8 or 9 pm .............. so we're not too unhappy about "cancelling" it this year so we can go out and finally have our Anniversary dinner that was postponed in August because I wasn't too well.
BUT ........... over here, we now NEVER make homemade treats to give out at the door. It might still be done in very small places where everyone knows everyone else, but certainly not in the towns and cities.
It all comes down to idiots who put "extras" into the goodies they made ...... like marijuana, razor blades, needles etc.
Kids now take their spoils home, and the parents will go through everything in there ................. homemade gets thrown out immediately, any candies or candy bars that are unwrapped or with wrappings that look as though they might have been interfered with, also go into the garbage.
Again, that is because every year some nasty will add something to the candies they give out.
I think that is why we have so many less children than we used to have ............. parents will take them to malls, parties, or drive to the houses of relations and friends, instead of walking the neighbourhood. It's a terribly suspicious world we live in.

Since the US mania of trick or treat became a must do over here..........,,,,,,,,31st was a night for being naughty. ;-) :-D :-D.

The rule where we live seems to be if you want to have Trick or Treat callers you put a pumpkin or some other T&T decoration in the window and they will call, if you don't have anything in the window they will walk on by. I put my bit of decoration in the front porch, and within a few within a few minutes we started to have a steady stream of little children, all dressed delightfully, with their parents standing at the top of the drive. When we were ready to have dinner, I turned out the lights and removed the decorations, and the children stopped coming. It was fun and I enjoyed it, leaving my lovely OH cooking our dinner.

Three more lots tonight, thank gawd that's over.
Grandchildren looked lovely but they do adhere to the lighted pumpkin rule. As they go out in a large group with parents they don't annoy anyone.
Then it's off to the local pub for food and a disco..lolol
Himself and me were snuggled under our blankies :-D

I ended up getting four groups - ranging between groups of 3 up to 6. These were the children of children I had known when I was a Learning Support Assistant, so, although I had no 'indicators' out - they knew I was 'safe'.
I had some Haribo stuff for them.
I still have some left. Normally, I take them to work, as I hate them, but am currently unemployed (temp job ended, hospital appointments deferred for 4 months while I worked needing to be attended etc) ...... Let's hope the temp agency comes up something soon, so I can get rid of them........

We spent the day carving pumpkins then went out to dinner and missed all the guisers. Eldest daughter spent 20 mins carving an excellent wolf, howling at the moon.
Youngest spent more than 4 hours on her Harry Potter inspired masterpiece. She etched one face with a Dementor a with carved a stag ( Patronus) onto the back. One torch and one light was placed inside ( My new avi is the result)
We ate at a Mexican restaurant As tomorrow is All Souls Day or Day of The Dead, the staff were all dressed and painted like decorated skulls ( dias de muertos)
We had a great day!
