We had fish pie (home made) last night and the house still smells of fish. Any good tips for getting rid of the smell? |

One other thing ................. make sure that no fish bits are left either in the drain of the sink (from washing up, or in the garbage bags |

Thanks, it was perfectly fresh but was a mix of cod, salmon and smoked haddock pieces. It was the haddock that smelled. |

Our favourite fish pie is made with smoked haddock. Really nice, but really stinky! |

Did you boil the fish first Ann? |

I microwaved the fish Liz but I do that with Salmon all the time and it doesn't smell, it must have been the haddock. I will try your tip next time. Strangely the microwave itself doesn't smell. |

I sometimes make a fish pie with just smoked haddock (and leeks). I put the fillet in a shallow dish and pour just boiled milk over it and leave for 10 mins. It flakes beautifully and the milk can be strained and used in the sauce. Doesn't smell too much! I find that pan-frying fresh salmon is the worst, thinking I will do them in the oven but the fillets are much nicer done in the pan.... |
