Which pieces make your scalp tingle and make the hairs on your arms stand up?

One that I have been listening to just now:-
Once upon a time in the West

(It needn't be classical)

:-)

Pipe Bands and Scottish Country Dance music.

Mostly Rachmaninov, Stravinski and Mozart.

As for non-classical - too long a list really, but a couple have to be The Smiths' How Soon Is Now and What Difference Does It Make.

I love Chopin .both the waltzes and polonaises .

Hubby had a wide range of classical music composers that he loved some of whom were too deep for my taste .
He also loved Andrew Lloyd Webber I bought him the music of Phantom of the Opera for last Christmas

Robert .... The Gael for the pipes!
Errol... Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini!

Also brass bands .... my Grandad used to take me to the park to listen when I was but a toddler.

Hello Shirley <3

I'm also a Lloyd Webber fan and I love classical.. though like you prefer for it to be not too heavy.
I'm enjoy listeninging to André Rieu and his Johann Strauss orchestra - I find it very relaxing and soothing.

Take care

Lots depending on the mood I am in at the time but Sibelius' Finlandia always gets to me, lots of Mozart especially the slow movement from the clarinet concerto. Last year, as part of the WW1 centenary remembrances, I went to a concert performance of Britten's War Requiem and found it very moving.

Non-classical, some of the old jazz singers like Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald and some of the songs from musicals.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 3 Nov 2015 16:14

That is one of my favourites along with, of course, Piano Concerto No 2.

I'm just listening to the Smiths now ... How soon is now ... it's good
Yep! No.2 I like also.

A lot of Sibelius falls into my realm - I actually appreciate most music, I think

AnninGlos

moonlight sonata
finlandia
Ella fitzgerald sining every time we say goodbye
Most of Les Miserables sung well.
the Old rugged cross played by Monty sunshine.

Love music although it is not so good to listen to now with hearing aids unfortunately.

I do enjoy a bit of Sibelius.

One of the best gigs I ever went to was The Smiths at Salford many many aeons ago.

The Romance from the Gadfly suite by Shostakovich - wonderful - it was used as the theme music for the TV programme "Riley, Ace of Spies"

Anything by Pendyrus Male Choir - Princess Margaret picked one of theirs when she was on Desert Island Discs

Oh my Beloved father

Bring him home - Les Mis

Passing strangers - Billy Eckstine

Most Strauss waltzes

No one but you - Billy Eckstine

I'll be home - Pat Boone

'Stars' and Who am I" from Les Mis ( the 10th anniversary concert in particular) .

'Gesthemane' from Jesus Christ Superstar, the original Ian Gillan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WntXfBFMRuE
but perhaps surprisingly this version by Michael Crawford, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UryTuPseiUo
In both cases the words are so clear...not like the 'singer' on Xfactor this week who could not come up with better than "Witchoo" for 'with you... ( I'm getting old ;-) )

Also of course, 'Mr Tanner' Harry Chapin

I like a good variety of music but at the moment I have developed a passion for Katie Melua's version of Wonderful, Wonderful Life (Here I go out to sea again) as I think of all the males in my Gran's family who, during the last couple of centuries, were seafarers doing various jobs, every last one of them.

I like tunes that remind me of things as well as those with good beats.

AnnC, Pat Boone, I'll be Home, Ah that brings back memories as it was popular when my OH was away in the RN.

Yes, Love bring him home, and Stars from les Mis too. But not Stars from the film I'm afraid, didn't like it then.

AnnCardiff

Ann - I'll be Home - OH was doing his national service in Singapore and we didn't see or speak to each other for nearly two years - a real tear jerker for me at the time
