V interesting Bataclan report posted by RRose.

This was def. not written by a native French speaker the style is wrong and there are some basic errors of spelling and grammar which would not be made even when stressed. Poss. written by a Belgian with 1st language Flemish? Weets is a Belgian name.

The tv interviews with the police in charge of taking over the theatre left some big questions and did not have much to say about the actions of the theatre staff. This post fills in the gaps so thank you.

The dog was sent in to sniff out booby-traps. Sad of course, but by doing so he saved his human handler's life....... and probably the lives of a number of other French service personnel.

Specially trained dogs are used for crime scene investigation in many countries. In France that includes active crime scenes e.g. shoot-outs and hostage situations where the dogs are very often of considerable help in indentifying explosive signatures, zones of opportunity and zones of danger. It is dangerous work. both for the dogs and the gendarmes and policemen. 135 officers have been killed on duty in France during the last 20 years.

As this has just shown up as 'liked' by a friend on FB I thought I'd post it here also.

"A message reposted from a promoter in Paris. Translated from French, original underneath,

"I just got cédric maheut (stage manager of Bataclan) on the phone, who was miraculously with a band in Luxembourg.
The technicians of the Bataclan have saved people by evacuating through the emergency exits.
The light technicians went back twice to the balcony to evacuate the public.
Hugo (console operator), Was in the lobby when it started, and went to see the command of police, telling them that he knew the room perfectly, and stayed with them in order to prepare the assault. They gave him a bulletproof vest, so that he turned on the lights of the room at the time of the assault.
Charline, who was at 'returns' (unsure of translation, either FOH or Monitors) switched the console back and protected a score of persons behind. She had them evacuate backstage at the time the attackers were mounted on the balcony.
The security team made the public evacuate by the main entrance, and returned several times to look for people in the venue
Chloe Weets, administration has taken 3 bullets in the legs but is fine.
All members of the Bataclan and production have helped the public. No one has played solo."

"While the band is now home safe, we are horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France. Our thoughts and hearts are first and foremost with our brother Nick Alexander, our record company comrades Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, and all the friends and fans whose lives were taken in Paris, as well as their friends, families, and loved ones.

Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together, with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion.

We would like to thank the French police, the FBI, the U.S. and French State Departments, and especially all those at ground zero with us who helped each other as best they could during this unimaginable ordeal, proving once again that love overshadows evil.

All EODM shows are on hold until further notice.

Vive la musique, vive la liberté, vive la France, and vive EODM."

Yes Barbra, we watched it too and did our very best to join in with the whole stadium to sing La Marseillaise before the minutes silence in respect of the people who were killed by the terrorists in Paris on Friday 13th November. You could hear a pin drop. Very very emotional indeed. A strong sense of solidarity and support for France.

hi

Despite what you may hear from some and esp Marine le Pen relationships between all ethnic communites including muslims in eastern Paris is very good. Until Friday the biggest issue was ( as in London ) developers pushing out people who have lived in the city for generations in favour of yuppies and Chinese property speculators.

There is no such thing as a Greater Paris similar to Greater London. Paris ends with the bvd circulaire and the 20 arondissements. An old joke is that the 21st arond. is the Three Valleys (Tigne etc.)

Around Paris there are a series of independent urban authorities which all together comprise the Isle de France. Paris itself has had a socialiswt major for a long time partly due to the corruption of Chirac and partly because they try not to knock the place down to make a buck and sustain the trad. city life such as grants to old theatres and not allowing developers to shut down the street markets.

The urban units such as Val de Marne. Haute de Seines tend to be run by the UMP. They have some areas which are very affluent eg Hautes de Seines but are characterised by endless public housing projects. These are known as the "banlieu" and other less polite names.

Life in the banlieus is tough but not anywhere near as tough as in large scale public housing in east London or Manchester. A good chunk of the muslim population live in these places. So do other ethnicities.

You will hear all sorts of nonsense that the French hate the muslim population of the banlieus, that they cannot get a decent job , go to college and so on and that makes them ripe for conversion to jihadism.

That simply is not true. Yes, fiery imams regulary preach inflamatory sermons on Fridays and some radicals try to suppress such things as bars and women not wearing the habiya. By and large they are ignored and even laughed out. The proportion falling for the nonsense of hate and violence is tiny when you realise that there are 4.5 million muslims in France most of whom were born there.

That is why the latest outrage was for the most part conceived and carried out by people from outside the city.
