'DIY Funerals' - just heard this mentioned on the radio this evening.

A friend of mine in her 70s who has cancer knows that she has just a few more months to live. Depressed? Far from it!

Already, she has contacted the local funeral parlour; ordered a coffin; listed out the type of church service she prefers; has put 'on notice' two men (I'm one) to organise/supervise car parking at the church; she has sorted-out food to be professionally provided afterwards; she has pre-paid for overnight accommodation for her extended family arriving from oversees & elsewhere; she will be buried alongside her late husband; her three children currently look after her in her own home (in shifts) with an occasional nurse visit to supervise her continual medication.

I call on her regularly - she is an amazingly cheerful lady despite everything, always ready for a bit of 'gab' - that's chat to you & me! Her Catholic faith has always been important to her. Wish I had just a little bit of her mental strength & fortitude.
