They have relocated my gt grandpa to Milk Street in 1891...damn clever as that street burnt down in 1666 and was never rebuilt. He lived in Brunswick Square.....well he did until they changed the format.

I can't bear to look at other records tonight, years and years of research messed up no doubt.

If, and it's a big IF, it's there, it should be on the person's Fact page. It would be under the Name & born, died bit.

TBH, on my tree at least, it comes and goes as it sees fit.

Maddie Report 21 Dec 2015 13:39

sorry to ask but where is the relationship link

So its is - Alfred's is back :-S

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 20 Dec 2015 10:38

They seem to have fixed it - comes up automatically on yr own tree not OPs.

eg

Gladys xxxx
Birth XXX 1920 • town, Derbyshire
Death Unknown
2nd cousin 1x removed

If you click on the relationship link it will then give you full details.

GR has or used to have something similar.

:-)

That's what we've been discussing Maureen. So far no one has been able to work out how to reliably recreate that.

On the old tree I had added "View Relationship " of each person to home person this would then show up under the name of person,i see this has gone now,does anyone know of a way to see how you are related to each person in your tree.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 19 Dec 2015 17:25

That's likely to be correct. I've never seen it on trees belonging to other people.

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 19 Dec 2015 17:16

Maybe it was only available on your own tree.

I'll try and have a look at the Library version next month - so far they haven't changed much on that.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 19 Dec 2015 16:17

It was on the original version - you used to be able to click 'view relationship to me' or words to that effect.
Alfred was only added today, so it definately wasn't carried over from the old version

In that case, neither of us are going mad :-D

Sorry - I can't!

Revisiting the profile page for Alfred Priestley, the example, it's disappeared :-S

Hi DetEcTive

I've never come across that on Ancestry trees - I've tried one several and none of them has a relationship link.

Can you take this idiot through how to do it and where to look?

Ta!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 19 Dec 2015 14:19

It should be on the person's profile page immediately below their name eg
1st cousin 4 x removed.
If you click on it, you get the line of relationship (to the 'Home' person)

Alfred Priestly (1857 - )
1st cousin 4x removed
[ as it happens, he was born to a single mother]
|
Fanny Priestley (1839 - 1899)
mother of Alfred Priestly
|
William Priestley (1791 - 1881)
father of Fanny Priestley
|
Mary Priestley (1817 - 1890)
daughter of William Priestley
|
THOMAS PRIESTLEY Barnatt (1840 - 1920)
son of Mary Priestley
|
Eliza Amelia Barnatt (1861 - )
daughter of THOMAS PRIESTLEY Barnatt

etc etc

How can I see what relationship someone is to another. It used to be easy with the caption: your relationship under someone's name. I do wish they would leave things as they were, if it aint broke don't fix it. Seriously considering leaving Anc when subs are due.

I'm beginning to feel there is no point using the comment box to correct information as there is no indication to other users that one has been made. I only found the drop down box because I was relooking at a tree and was positive I had previously commented.

Another sign that Ancestry are not interested in real people and real ancestors.

I had the same problem the other day .......... actually regarding a "sister" for my grandfather. A problem caused by two brothers marrying wives with the same name, and then both dying before the 1891 Census leaving two mothers who moved from the home village to the same Lancashire town, and with children of the similar age.

Easy to sort out IF you only looked at censuses and double checked information!

I would have loved to comment on each of the 4 or 5 trees that had copied the wrong information ...... but couldn't find any Comment Box. I didn't think of looking in the drop down boxes :-(

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 18 Dec 2015 16:39

Thanks Alan
I'm not actually having a problem with my tree (I don't have one) it is that I don't like the fact that they have hidden away the comments box so that when looking at the new Storyline or facts on a person you can no longer spot that a comment has been made.

Who would look at the drop down box if you didn't know a comment could be made?

Hi Teresa

I don't do FB and as this is more of a complaint I doubt I'd get that quick a reply ;-)

I've now emailed them at support, but I don't suppose they will care as I am not one of their young ipad/app users :-| :-D
