40 C? is that hot?

I lived in Kuwait for a while. June - September the mercury hits 40 C at 2am let alone noon while August highs are around 50 C. In 1986 August high was 61 C.
There isn't any shade.

The Brits carried on as Brits do rushing around in the midday sun. The Ozzies brewed beer. The French joined the locals with a siesta 2-7pm.

No I couldn't, 30 degrees is too hot for me, better when it's a dry heat but still not my thing :-D

I can cope with any heat, as long as it's dry.
Malta as a toddler - average 27 C - no problem - did I HAVE to keep my knickers on?
Saudi May to November - average 36C - just slept through the hottest part of the day, when it reached above 40C - I'm no fool!
UK 25C one ONE day of the year - I'm floored. It's humidity that 'kills' me.

Agrees with maggie. It's the humidity which is the problem. 50c might be a bit too far.

You can get used to most high temperatures as long as you're not in direct sunlight. One year we spent a week in Las Vegas 104f, then flew to the San Francisco Bay are. At 86f it felt jolly cold!

Many years ago, when I first came out to WA from the UK, I worked north of Kalgoorlie in Leonora. It was a dry heat and I wasn't really bothered by it until the temps were over 40C.

When we moved to where we are now, on the south west coast, the first summer temps over 28C nearly floored me due to the humidity :-(

Ah, but could you handle minus 40 C? That's what it is here right now. Actual temp is minus 25 but wind chill makes it feel like minus 40. It's brisk!

Errrr no, I was in around 34c in Perth and about the same in Malta one year. The humidity was the killer :-(

I am sure being Northern European we have the wrong genes to cope with really high temperatures. I lived in Spain for 2 years quite happily but was severely overcome by heat in Poole harbour of all places in my early 20s.

We are also not used to drinking enough fluids, it's far too late by the time you feel faint :-0

Having said all that I'd swap heat for the shocking weather we have had in the UK over recent years ;-)

Having lived in Shetland, where the lowest temperature is pretty low - then include wind chill factor, in an old draughty croft house with an electric fire in the living room, and a kitchen extension that used to have ice on the inside - yes, but personally, not my preferred temperature!!

I lived in a house in Essex with the same problem - heating in one room only - and ice on the walls of the kitchen and bathroom in the winter :-(

Didn't have the bathroom problem in Shetland - there wasn't any - it was a bucket in a shed in the garden :-|

The 'Great UK Snow-in' of 62/63 found us living in a caravan in Lossiemouth (Scotland), having just moved from Malta.
Snow is a great insulator - but caravan door open outwards - we were snowed in, and (yet again) our loo was a bucket in a shed...........
