Thanks for posting this about Piicasa Ann....I have this on my computer which I rarely use these days. iPad too easy..lol...must go sort it out soon.
There's always something to attend to...don't know how I ever found time to go to work! :-S

OK I have had a good look and registered and got my photos backed up on Flickr. But I have also registered and explored Windows live photos. The latter is a bit more basic, like Picasa so I will use that but I will also use Flickr as I see windows live photos will transfer photos to flickr which has a slightly more comprehensive editing programme. sorted I hope!

Finding it a little bit complicated but hopefully I will get there.

http://techcrunch.com/2013/03/05/picasa-web-albums-are-officially-dead-now-redirect-to-google-photos/

Google photos by default stores pix at a lower resolution. If you go for max res. they take more space; you can get more space by paying for it. OTOH Flikr gives you 1 GB for free ...

Are we likely to lose any photos from Picassa?

Well I think I have registered. Have to see how to use it now.

OK thank you. I actually do have a yahoo account but rarely use it.

Flikr is wildly better which may be why it has > 100 million users!
You do need to set up a Yahoo account but that is free.

I note that Flickr is a Yahoo site, would that be any better than going with the google photo site?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 Feb 2016 20:31

Thank you Rollo I will look into that one. Is it a free programme?

Yes I know, however when you get to my age and have been using something like picassa for years it is a bit daunting to think of having to change. I used to like photosuite and that disappeared. Not sure I fancie google photos ( or whatever). I do have Coral but it is not a particularly easy programme. I have hundreds of photos on picassa, (they are mostly all backed up/saved on disc).

Any suggestions for a replacement Rollo.

You said two weeks I had not heard about it until my OH got his Web user mag today.

They announced that 2 weeks ago. PIcassa is being supplanted by Google Photos. However it will still work fine on local machines running Windows/Android. It has always been a mess on linux. Those most impacted are those using albums.

There are no end of alternatives.

Anybody use it? If so are you aware that google is stopping supporting it from March?
