Sorry to hear about your diverticulitis Maggie. :-(

Well, since developing diverticular disease, I can no longer eat beetroot (which I love) in 'comfort'.
I've tried purple carrots - they had the same effect :-S
I avoid any purple/black veg now :-(

I will stick to the old tried and tested carrot,
it all sounds too confusing for me and if there
is no difference in taste why bother.

Welcome back Paula :-)

Black carrots are infact purple, some varieties are darker than others and are purple all through,,,,,,,they are grown on our allotments purley for showing,as are purple sprouts and rainbow pak choi.....yellow,green and red.
.
they can be grown at home in a deep sides vessle abt 15 inches deep,,light sandy soil with no fertiliser which carrots dont like.........cover with a net to stop carrot fly and help with flea bettles.

they can be roasted.

As an aside from carrots ( not my favourite veg), welcome back, hope you had a good time and where did you stay?

A couple of Christmases ago I got a sealed pack of mixed-coloured carrots from Sainsbury as a novelty. They all tasted the same to me so maybe it's the way they were cooked that made the taste different from your usual carrot, Polly?

I'm certain I've seen varieties in other supermarkets here.

We tried purple carrots....... they didn't taste any different to orange ones.

Black? maybe they were charred purple ones. lol

They're different species Prickolls

:-)

They're probably crossed with licorice. That would account for the amazing taste :-D

they sound like blue potatoes, which are actually mauvish or bluish-grey, often with a whiter area in the centre.

The skins are so dark that they look black!
