That should read wives, past and present.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 25 Apr 2016 09:36

He lied to his wife, he lied to his mistresses. But he rides a bike so he's ok. To hell with the pain he causes to his children and his wife.

Nice.

Dermot

Boris has many other attributes worth considering.

He's a regular cyclist. More power to him!

Dermot

Dermot Report 24 Apr 2016 18:20

Guinevere - the passion of celibacy for those who decide to live that sort of life is all that they have to look forward to.

Not much of a life - so I'm told. But don't quote me on that otherwise I'll be in trouble indoors.

"All hail, Boris"!

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 24 Apr 2016 17:35

"'Perfect' human beings are not my cup of tea. Boris is ok"

Surprised to hear you think habitual adultery is OK, Dermot.

A bit over ten years ago I went to a Boris party at the Travellers.I was very impressed with him no doubt about it. Funny, witty, obviously erudite. He could, at least back in the day, think on his feet and come up with a bon mot for any occasion. He was also very obviously a man on the make and in a hurry.

Since then his hail fellow well met buffoonery has made him a lot of fans especially on TV. Yet in the cold light of dawn he is a cold fish.

Keeping bad political company is a difficult thing to give up. Boris has definitely lost his way thanks to Michael Gove, David Hannan and the motley crew from Oxford's Grid club. Maybe having written a well received bio. on Winston Churchill he believes himself to be the natural political heir hence the fuss about white house busts. Who knows.

First a whisper, then a March wind and now a howling gale the Brexiters are up against the elements with as much chance of defeating them as King Knut.

Boris has already committed the cardinal political sin and burned his boats. The leader of the Brexit faction is wildly unlikely to become PM. So what to do?

After Robert Peel (Tory PM, keen foxhunter) repealed the Corn Laws in 1843 the Tory Party split. The industrialists got what they wanted the landowners and aristocracy did not. The party remained split for generations.

Given that half the Tory party in parliament back brexit together with nearly all of the party in the shires would Boris be prepared to split the party and take half of it into opposition? Cameron would be left with a rump party relying on Jeremy Corbyn of all people for support. Ramsay McDonald all over.

In case of such a scenario there would have to be fresh elections and Boris could put brexit right back on the table.

Dark waters.
