supercrutch Report 14 Apr 2016 12:02

A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with essential tremor, thankfully not Parkinsons or MS.

Now, if I meet you beware....I have to eat with a spoon (unless you want the contents of my plate thrown at you). I also have a 'yes, yes' head tremor. So if you ask me something it does NOT mean I am agreeing with you :-P please wait for my mouth to open!

Daily activities can be a pain but hubby has taken over a lot of the cooking as he didn't fancy picking one of my fingers up off the floor when I attempt to chop something.

As usual I can only treat this latest health problem with humour so friends that already know are having a field day :-D

So......although I look like I'm falling apart even more - my brain and mouth still work fine ;-)

I'm with you Sue the only way to get through anything
that is thrown at us is with laughter. :-)

Now you say your brain and mouth are working fine,
do your friends need a second oplnion on that :-D :-D

Joking apart Sue good to hear it's not MS or Parkinson's <3 <3

Rambling Report 14 Apr 2016 13:17

here for a second, back problems so I can't sit to type a cheeky reply ;-) nor can I run away if I did so lol... I would never underestimate that brain of yours Sue :-D but of course I will take that head tremor as agreement with me on all topics....rofl, like as if ;-)

very glad it's not MS or Parkinsons xx

Emma, you are a cheeky bat...lolol

Our Rose, no I am not agreeing with you unless the nod is VERY vigorous (although I do most times) ;-)

Ann, I would be hopeless as a compass, North keeps moving :-D

Sharron Report 14 Apr 2016 13:51

I like the idea of essential tremor.

Does that mean we all have to have one?

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 14 Apr 2016 14:42

Sharron, would you like mine (I am currently offering Green Shield stamps with it) ;-)

Glad to see you're retaining your sense of humour.

Can you lend me a tenner?

Coo, thanks.

supercrutch Report 14 Apr 2016 15:45

No but I could lend you a Tena ;-) *nods head*

AnninGlos Report 14 Apr 2016 15:58

Lol Sue, where would we be without your humour. Like the 'please speak clearly I am hard of hearing' badges you will have to wear one that says 'Just because I nod my head I am not agreeing with you'.

Not sure what effect it would have though as when I wore the hearing badge I got shouted at so I stopped wearing it Lol!!

Now if we meet and you are nodding but not agreeing and I am nodding but not really hearing, where does that leave the conversation?
:-D

Seriously, it is so good that it is not Parkinsons or MS (although I am sure you would have dealt with that in your fashion too). And like others on here I admire you for how you deal with what must be a frustrating situation. :-) <3 <3 <3

"Pardon Ann?" ;-)

I'll mime at you and just think what amusement that will bring..lolol

We are going to a wedding in London in a few weeks, had a hilarious conversation with the bride (my best friend) because it's a buffet afterwards.

Just how impressive will I be balancing the plate on my head whilst staggering with 2 crutches back to my seat?

Oh and tell the celebrant not to look in my direction when they ask if anyone knows of any impediment....lmao.

AnninGlos Report 14 Apr 2016 17:26

Hope there are no plates of jelly to carry around. And get OH to carry any drink, you don't want to be wasting that!!!

Foggy Report 14 Apr 2016 20:02

Hello Sue, long time no speak.
I'm sure the docs should be able to prescribe something for your tremor that will ease it.
For just over 18 months I have been taking co-beneldopa for my Parkinson's and it has reduced the tremors quite significantly, so keep up you wonderful sense of humour and all will be fine :-)

Keep smiling Foggy :-D

As long as you stay in touch on here and FB you will have a laugh.

Not so sure about the Twits on Twitter though.

Hello Foggy, how lovely to 'see you'. The neurologist has recommended two meds but I am delaying taking them until I have to. I rattle enough now. I am pleased you are doing well. <3

Bro you know my sense of humour too well. I will keep annoying people on twitter because I enjoy it ;-)

BrendafromWales

BrendafromWales Report 14 Apr 2016 23:56

I have an 87yr old friend in Oz who has the tremor. He recently had a pacemaker fitted and the meds for his tremor upset that a bit,so he has come to terms with a lot more shakes, but we laugh about it..I think it can be hereditary...am I right?

I also knew a lady who lived here till last year and she had the tremor, but she rode a bike until she was about 80.,but she found it hard to drink a cup of tea without spilling.

I'm sure you will cope with it,Sue,to laugh will get you through as to be embarassed would make it worse and you would tense up.if people don't like how you are....tough.
Xx

supercrutch Report 15 Apr 2016 00:24

Hi Brenda, you are right in some cases it can be hereditary but couldn't find any possible cases in my family. The one fact the neurologist noted was eldest daughter and her MS.

I am allowed to make hot drinks but not carry them in from kitchen, hubby isn't that brave.lol

Painting my nails would be a hit if I put the video on YouTube ;-)

The only huge inconvenience is trying to use the track pad on my laptop. I think I have the arrow in the right place, tap it and it shoots off somewhere surprising. I will use more of the voice controls when it finally drives me nuts!

But hey look on the bright side, my muscles are getting more of a workout :-D

Huia Report 15 Apr 2016 08:02

My grandmother used to have a nodding head. I think I vaguely wondered about it, but was used to it and I dont think she spilled her cuppa or food. I think it was just the head that nodded. Interesting to 'hear' you talking about your tremor. I am 80 now and I dont think I have it - as yet.

They say laughter is the best medicine so you're already ahead of many.

Keep smiling and putting your threads on here.

Hope you enjoy your friend's wedding. You'll have to tell us all about it in your own special way of course. ;-) <3
