If I've done my maths right, that's not quite 13 pence a week Ann :-D :-D :-D

You've had a bargain! :-)

BarbinSGlos

BarbinSGlos Report 14 Apr 2016 19:47

Ann that an awful lot cheaper than I had to pay , well done :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 14 Apr 2016 21:34

Same as the past two years, before that it was £7.50ish, can't remember quite. But yes I appreciate it. :-)

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 14 Apr 2016 22:33

That's what I paid Ann. I think it's because we've been around for a long time and renewed every year without any breaks.

Kath. x :-)

AnninGlos Report 14 Apr 2016 22:46

Part of the furniture Kath 13 years! yes, I have never had a break and have the membership on continuous :-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 15 Apr 2016 01:08

yep .................

it's still the grandfathered clause for the long time members who had never had a break, even to upgrade to a higher sub level.

Joan ......... I think I paid the same as you last September. It's still a good deal!

Tabitha Report 15 Apr 2016 13:12

I paid £8 96 at my last renewal for my usual 12 months membership, & was told that it included a loyalty 10% off !!

I have been a member a long time too since it started really May 2003 - very strange

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 15 Apr 2016 14:33

I made a mistake earlier. It was actually £8.96p that I paid to renew last time!

So now I'm with Barry - why the difference? I always knew there were different amounts but thought that all those who been members almost from the beginning of the site (when it was GenesReconnected, which I thought was a more appropriate name) were on the same low subscription.

Kath. x :-( :-( :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 15 Apr 2016 19:43

Barry ........

I was the same as you, except mine went up from £7:96 to £8.96 in 2014 ............. with a 10% loyalty bonus in both 2014 and 2015.

and I joined in April 2004

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 15 Apr 2016 19:48

Wendy, sorry :-D :-D thanks we are both fine.

Phyll

Phyll Report 15 Apr 2016 19:58

I paid £8.96 in January for 6 moths. Have been on GR for 8 years - blimey is it really that long.
Phyll

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 15 Apr 2016 20:32

But Phyll joined after the grandfather clause was put in place ......

........ that was done by ITV when they bought GR in 2007.

she is paying more-or-less the same amount that was in place when she joined

However, threads complaining about the discrepancies that different members pay pop up about every 2 or 3 months, and tend to become very acrimonious!.

I can tell you that this site is not worth more for ME than the amount I'm paying , I do not know about others. I would not rejoin if it is increased in September when my sub is due. I spend most of my time helping other members, and that is the reason I stay, but I also do that on a couple of other sites that are in fact free :-).

It never has been worth paying the super fees for Gold and now Platinum ...... GR doesn't carry its own records, it mostly accesses those on FMP, and many of them are available for free elsewhere (eg on freebmd).

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 15 Apr 2016 21:51

Hmm. £8.96 this year. £7.96 last year and the year before.

I joined in 2003.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 16 Apr 2016 07:53

Just looked back.....£8.96 in March and I have been a continuous member since 2003 too.

No mention of loyalty but lots of advice about how easy it is to start your family tree, start searching, send messages and share trees. :-S

Now, why didn't I realise that this was a family history site all those years ago? doh!
:-D :-D

AnninGlos Report 16 Apr 2016 09:12

Sylvia, this thread has not become acrimonious as yet, just a few puzzled members. who knows where the amounts come from. Maybe some had a problem with a change of credit card or something.
If it does become acrimonious I will delete it.

Hi All. I dont use this site very often now for research as I have had lots of health problems but often check in for a look at all your posts. I have been a member since 2005 continuous and this year when I renewed I was charged £17.96 for the year. I am pleased for all of you that have paid a lot less but feel a bit miffed to say the least. Will think seriously about renewing next year, me thinks. :-S

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 16 Apr 2016 11:56

Think back Annmarie to if you ever had even a slight break (maybe a hiccup with your card, or late paying, or were ill and didn't get there on time. It does seems strange that yours should be so much more. Is that standard membership all the way through. If you previously had a different membership then reverted to standard, you would have paid a higher rate when you changed.
I have always just had the basic standard membership.
