This is from the first Welsh opera ever performed, written by Joseph Parry in 1878 who also wrote Myfanwy. I recorded it in part because I could not find it anywhere, and it is a very beautiful song, written for a higher voice than mine, as I found it very difficult. It is about a soldier imprisoned, bloody and doomed, singing a message of love. The Welsh was also very difficult for me this time, and I apologize to the Welsh people for the particularly poor pronunciation in this version. I wish someone with a true lyric tenor voice and a better command of Welsh would sing it. With the right accompaniment, perhaps a violin over an orchestra, it would be very sweet indeed. I had a recording of it a long time ago, and I have lost it. The pictures are from travels with my wife, my "Blodwen" and the song does make one think of when the day will come when I am gone from her forever though I am no longer in danger like I once was.
