She was on Newsnight last night, really good. You can still see her on iPlayer catchup.

Polly Toynbee has 'a way' with words.

Her comprehensive piece, highlighted on here by Guinevere, was a pleasure to read, logical & easy to comprehend.

As you say Gwynne eloquent. I wish I could have written that, so true. But so worrying that impressionable people will believe the likes of Farage and Johnson.

Guinevere

Polly Toynbee, eloquent as ever.

UKIP are a full house of morons, liars, chancers and the gullible. They have created a poisonous atmosphere in which evil can thrive.Of course it is not their fault it never is.

Only 10 miles from where i live, feelings do run high here about brexit but it seems this guy was a loner and had mental health issues , i cannot imagine anyone in a stable mind doing this brexit or no brexit.. :-(

Le Figaro is a leading French newspaper with a stance roughly the same as the Daily Telegraph. None the less it has put this up on its web site today:

Faded memories of Airey Neave (1979) & Ian Gow (1990). :-(

I have woken to this news and I'm shocked to the core. I was born in Yorkshire too and she would have been my local Labour MP if my parents had not migrated to Australia. RIP Jo Cox.

A dear kind caring and compassionate woman. She was taken far to soon. Another life wasted. RIP Jo.

My heart goes out to her family and no amount of speculation and mud slinging can bring her back. It can only cause more pain and upset

RIP Jo

The reports of him shouting "Britain First" are being denied.

The killer was suffering from mental health issues (according to his own words, previously published).

I'll wait for the true version, I'm a little sick of all the speculation and the inevitable finger pointing.

It's tragic enough that a worthy MP has been murdered, no need to compound that hurt for her family and friends.

Dermot

Death is so awfully final. RIP.

RIP, Jo.

What wonderful words from her husband.

"In a statement, Brendan Cox said:

"Today is the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. More difficult, more painful, less joyful, less full of love. I and Jo's friends and family are going to work every moment of our lives to love and nurture our kids and to fight against the hate that killed Jo.

"Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it every day of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people.

"She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her. Hate doesn't have a creed, race or religion, it is poisonous.

"Jo would have no regrets about her life, she lived every day of it to the full."

It is alleged but not substantiated that the attacker shouted 'Britain First'.

I would assume everyone on this site, no matter what part of the world they live in, is aware that the 'Britain First' organisation has nothing to do with Brexit or those who support the Brexit campaign for valid reasons.

It is a racist organisation, spawn of the National Front, but less pleasant ( #sarcasm).

Most papers on line are naming the nutter involved.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 16 Jun 2016 19:15

Murdered for her beliefs apparently.
Here they are.

'Batley and Spen is a gathering of typically independent, no-nonsense and proud Yorkshire towns and villages. Our communities have been deeply enhanced by immigration, be it of Irish Catholics across the constituency or of Muslims from Gujarat in India or from Pakistan, principally from Kashmir. While we celebrate our diversity, what surprises me time and time again as I travel around the constituency is that we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us...

Businesses in my constituency want help to address the skills mismatch at local level which leaves employers with staff shortages and young people without jobs. They want access to reliable sources of finance, including a network of local banks. They want to connect to a regional infrastructure that works for them, not rail price hikes of more than 126% and endless delays to key transport projects such as the electrification of the line from Manchester to Leeds. Many businesses in Yorkshire want the security and stability of Britain’s continued membership of the European Union, a cause I look forward to championing passionately in this place and elsewhere...
I am Batley and Spen born and bred, and I could not be prouder of that. I am proud that I was made in Yorkshire and I am proud of the things we make in Yorkshire. Britain should be proud of that, too. I look forward to representing the great people of Batley and Spen here over the next five years.'

She was a wonderful person god knows where we are going.
Not much to celebrate today then despite the efforts of Vardy & Co.

The police need to ascertain and make public who this nutter was and his motivation before mud starts getting slung in all directions.
