Watching this thread as, like you Jem, I am still on W7 and a bit nervous about upgrading, not sure how 10 will cope with Picasa (which is also on its last legs) and all my photos and blogs etc. Did anybody, or will anybody admit to losing any programmes etc?

PatinCyprus Report 20 Jul 2016 13:43

Ann myy OH has 2 PCs and a laptop and has changed them all from 7 or 8 to 10 without any problems at all. No programmes lost.

I don't think I've actually lost anything but it is taking me a long time to find my way round - but I think I shall definitely be happier with it eventually (want to use as my avatar to show Jemima MY greatgrandson 18 months correctly passing his rugby ball! but can't)

OH updated a desktop computer from Windows 7 and a laptop from Windows 8 some while ago and both seem to be working fine. I've hardly noticed any difference.

Edit for AnninGlos - OH has loads of photos on the computer and I have lots of images of certificates, census returns etc. We didn't lose anything. I did back mine up on a USB first just in case but everything was OK

Thanks all, thanks Pat especially

Another question, Does W10 work OK with Firefox?

Andysmum Report 20 Jul 2016 17:04

The only thing we lost was Nero StartSmart and we sorted that by buying the latest version. Everything else was fine, although it did take a while to find things!

We found Windows 10 for Dummies quite useful until we got the hang of things.

Annx

Annx Report 20 Jul 2016 17:39

It automatically downloaded on my laptop a few months ago and caused corruption of some files so I couldn't use it properly. I was tearing my hair out with it so In the end I asked our helpline people to get rid of it and restore the Windows 8.1 I was perfectly happy with. It was them that discovered files had been corrupted.

My husband had downloaded it a while before then and his has been fine. I have used his laptop, but to be honest with what I use my laptop for I can't see any advantage.

Evening Annx, if MS downloaded on to your PC a programme that was corrupt or corrupted your file, that a step or two too far, even for Microsoft.
Could have caused loss of business or reduced profit, at your expense.
You should expect their best service and an apology.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Jul 2016 22:26

Annx what type of files were they that were corrupted? Word, excell?

Hi Everyone :-)

Sorry I'm very late responding to all your posts. I had unexpected visitors who have only just gone home!

I'm trying to post from my phone, and not good at it, so I will post tomorrow from my laptop.

Thanks Elizabeth for showing me your lovely Great Grandson :-)
Having read your post better on my lappy rather than my phone (another technological advancement that I am learning:-D) I'm realising that it is not the one you wanted to show me though.

Good Afternoon Everyone :-)

Thank You all for your posts with your experiences of Windows 10!:-)

I'm still undecided. It's the time limit factor that puts pressure on!

I want to stay with what I'm happy with. Windows 7 does everything that I need a computer for. What I'm worried about, is if Microsoft stop updating Windows 7, especially as many of these updates are security ones, will this leave me vulnerable to virus attacks etc?!

The clock is ticking however, and so I will need to make my mind up soon!

:-D :-D :-D

ps... Thanks Barbra <3
Had lots of "cwtches" from Babes yesterday :-D :-D <3

Allan Report 21 Jul 2016 13:58

Jem, in that case stick with Windows 7 :-)

It is in Microsoft's interest for people to switch, not necessarily in the people's interest.
