This has been the subject of several threads, but I thought I'd say that I have just renewed my subscription and because I had to put in my new card details, GR are pleased to tell me that I have now been upgraded to Standard Member!! :-S :-S

I'm not quite sure what they thought I was before!!

Island

Island Report 2 Aug 2016 21:57

Free? :-S

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 2 Aug 2016 22:11

Unfortunately not. But still only £8.96 for 6 months.

BUT - I do wish they would bring back the facility for entering a new card. Last time I had to pretend I was a newbie!!! and was given all the info about how to start my research. :-|

My subs are due on 22nd August. I sent GR an email yesterday, asking when they will send me details of how much it will cost this time.

I hope they tell me in Aussie$$.

The want £18 from me and I'm thinking about it...lolol

Andysmum Report 3 Aug 2016 10:28

Mine was exactly two weeks before it was due. So you should get yours next week, Scozz.

With new cards though, at least they still keep my same renewal date and amount - they just take the money early. In my case, this doesn't matter, apart from being irritating, but the two weeks' notice overlaps the end of the month, when many people get paid and an unexpected deduction for GR subs could cause problems. Particularly for newer members who pay much higher subs.

they charge me £ 7.50 / 6 months which is twice what I paid before I let it drop for a month. Otherwise they have a "special offer" of £ 20 for a whole year (?)

the site has poor security and for that reason using PayPal rather than a debit/credit card is a better way to go. Never use a debit card for internet transactions more than a few people have been cleaned out as a result.

Andysmum, I wasn't suggesting you *were* a free member before.

You said "...not quite sure what they thought I was before!!'

so I responded :-S

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 3 Aug 2016 11:58

Sorry, Island. I thought you meant were they kindly renewing it for free!! :-)

I was obviously not thinking straight! :-S

Island

Island Report 3 Aug 2016 12:52

You never know, given that subs widely differ with no real rhyme or reason they might throw in the odd freebie now and again LOL :-D

MargaretM Report 3 Aug 2016 20:18

I can't believe the disparity in what GR charges to different members! Why?

My sub came due in June. This is the message I received:

"You have been billed £6.75 GBP for a 12 month Standard membership"

Thank you Joy Dean,
Your payment has been received and you are now a member of Genes Reunited.
You have been billed £6.75 GBP for a 12 month Standard membership.

The huge price difference is between those of us that have lapsed a few times and those that had continued renewal (or renewed before time was up).

MR_MAGOO

MR_MAGOO Report 3 Aug 2016 22:28

This is what I paid in June.

You have been billed £8.96 GBP for a 12 month Standard membership.

Approx 3p a day.... :-D

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 4 Aug 2016 07:12

Got a response......

Having reviewed your account I can confirm your renewal cost of your 12 month Standard Subscription will be $30.56.

Currency conversion $30.56Au is 17.39BP

The amount members are charged varies........ for no reason.

I have been a member since 2005, with NO break.

I don't think I will be renewing.......... I really don't appreciate being charged double what other members are paying.

:-P

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 4 Aug 2016 07:33

I responded to GR's email.... told them I wouldn't be renewing unless I was charged the same as other members.

They'll probably say goodbye :-D

Cos we are special? :-S

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 4 Aug 2016 15:51

Those like Frances and Joydean joined at the beginning and were charged £8.96 for 12 months.

I joined in 2008 and pay £8.96 for 6 months.

Supercrutch joined in 2010 by which time the cost had gone up again.

Although GR said they were going to increase our subscriptions so that everyone paid the same, that idea seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Lady Scozz, you are a mystery! Unless it's because you are in OZ and has something to do with GR's Bank Charges. I know there's an extra charge if OH pays anything in euros.
