My first book I read through from start to finish.

Any of the Terry Pratchett Disc World books. Each one contains an element of satire which may not be spotted during the first read.

So many - The first lady's detective agency. Ian Rankin's Rebus. The first book I ever read, aged seven and given Mum's copy of 'Little Women' to keep me quiet.

Have to say '84 Charing Cross Road' by Helene Hanff. Why? I was with her in her apartment from the beginning. I understand her love of books, the way she scolded Frank because books she had ordered came wrapped in loose pages of books. I knew her, she was my friend! <3

Well I tried, I wracked my brains and couldn't come up with one favourite. I can come up with favourite authors though. Diana Galbaldan, Kate Moss, Kate Morton, Daphne Du Maurier, susanna Kearsley, Philippa Gregory, Elizabeth Chadwick. rosamunde picher, Barbara Erskine, Louise Candlish. To name a few.

Favourite books in the past have been, yes Little Women, Little men and Good wives (read them all quite young), the Poldark series, the Jalna series by Mazo de la Roche, Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee.To Kill a Mocking Bird

Not quite answered your question Rose, often my favourite is the one I am reading although not always, with the Kindle I do read some rubbish!
I like a book I can really get into, one I can't put down with characters that are real and, even better if I can learn something from it.

I am sure that I have left some authors out, blame my 'brain' for that.

All the Swallows and Amazons books by Arthur Ransome (I was given the first for my 8th birthday) and also HMS Ulysses, by Alastair MacLean. It is so realistic that it was quite a long time before I realised it was fiction.
