Kense Report 26 Sep 2016 12:15

At a few minutes ago the membership numbers had reached 14,196,239.

Of course some of those will have deleted or been removed and many are additional accounts of existing members.

About 10,000 new members join every month.

Island, my OH and I have two separate trees on here and we use the same email address, contrary to what you believe is now possible.

In that way while we share the email address, we each have our own individual registration - not multiple ones.

That is why I asked why one person needs multiple registration/names because it speaks of swapping identities to me and I wondered why someone would do that.

Are you yet down to the elbow? :-D :-0

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 26 Sep 2016 17:33

Not quite the same set up because we don't have multiple registrations only two individual ones even though we use the same email address.

I did not take a pop at you, I merely asked you a question because to me a person who has multiple registrations has more than one for the same individual. I note that you wrote 'only one active' but I wondered (and asked) why one individual would need more than one.

Would I ever upset anyone? :-0

JoyLouise Report 26 Sep 2016 17:35

Well, that wasn't me. It was reported as I was typing out a response.

Also, I have an exceedingly thick skin.

Island

Island Report 26 Sep 2016 17:50

What the heck??? Absolutely nothing wrong there. Hate campaign per chance?

Joy. It is the same. Whatever you like to call them, I have three separate trees under one email, you and your husband have two separate trees under one email.
You say the other tree/registration is your husband - how do we know that?

I cannot combine three separate family trees in one registration. I don't understand why you don't get that!

Yes! you would upset someone.

Off to complain to GR.......

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 26 Sep 2016 18:56

You know the other tree under one email address is my husband's because that is what I wrote. I am courteous enough to believe what you wrote and although I expect courtesy to be returned, I can do nothing about what you believe.

I have no idea why you keep asking whether I get something you wrote because you obviously don't get what I wrote.

I am taking it as a joke that you would complain to GR - especially over something as minor as this in the scheme of things.

Island

Island Report 26 Sep 2016 19:26

My complaint to GR was about the RR.

Quite often we are asked by members on here, is it possible to set up another/other account/account's in order to set up another/other tree/tree's?

There are all sorts of reasons why members want to do that.

For example.......A lady recently wanted to be able to set up a separate tree for her son's father's side of the family.

It has never crossed my mind that someone might set up separate account's, in order to "swap identities"

"Do you swap from one to the other when you have upset people or when people have upset you."

Hmmmm, interesting..........and I have been here since 2007..

You obviously understand things far better than I do JoyLouise.

As I understand it you can have several accounts but you can only post on one of them unless you pay for more than one subscription.

There is little to be gained by having more than one subscription but it would enable you to post under two identities. Why anyone would want to do that I can only think would be to cause trouble.

One could create accounts (using different emails) in order to report posts anonymously. As long as GR is unable to determine that reports are from the same person then there's not much they can do.

I believe the requirement that a separate account has to be from a different email address is a fairly recent change.

Island

Island Report 27 Sep 2016 19:26

That is what I believe re accounts Prickles and Ken.

Going back to my comment to Mr M about multiple registrations. Apart from having to register to actually view the site, I'm sure there are a lot of trees that were started in the early days and abandoned only for some of those people to renew their interest sometime later and register again. The latter would probably account for some of the duplicate entries that I mentioned.
All above board.

So there you go Mr M, if you're still looking in, a few duplicate members to take of the tally.

It had never occurred to me that anyone might finance more than one account to cause trouble - why? when there are so many free forums. That seems a bit far fetched to me.

Thanks for all your replies.

Didn't mean it to cause an argument but some might not realise how many threads have been created.

But there you go, kept Island and Joy occupied for a few days. :-D

It's good to chat as they say............ :-D :-D

Thinking more about it.....going back a few years ago when things were "kicking off" left, right and centre, members were wary of just who was who.

It was a shame for new members who joined in on the chat board, because everyone was suspicious of who they were.

Nowt so queer as some folk.

Onwards, upwards and steady as you go.

:-D

Island

Island Report 27 Sep 2016 20:20

That must have been in happier times Prickolls when General and Chat were separate boards. I didn't dare post on Chat, it was scary! :-0
General was much more chatty and civilised.
It's a pity GR merged them.

Have to say that the first time I used Chat was 2008.

It was very friendly and very funny but there were some spats then.

The very first chat posts in 2003 were one after the other and it was difficult to see who you wanted to reply too.

Don't you come in here blandishing bland comments Allan, this is an 'ighly hinteresting thread. So fascinating that Prickles chewed her left foot off but don't fret, she's got a nice blandage on it now.
