I hope someone understands what I am talking about! :-D

Since my laptop updated on Tuesday, any records I copy and then paste from FreeBMD, Ancestry or FMP, pastes elongated.

For example from FeeBMD......

Marriages Mar 1850   (>99%)
Garvan
 John Thomas

 Islington
 3
176

Green
 Emma

 Islington
 3
176

Before Widows 10 automatically downloaded, there used to be an icon at the top of the page, resembling a torn piece of paper, which you could click on to rectify the matter.

That icon is no longer there. :-(

I have clicked on anything and everything to find a solution but not having any luck.

Any ideas please anyone?

Edit: I have just remembered what it's called.........Compatibility View

What browser are you using?

I have tried it with Firefox and Internet Explorer 11 and they both work properly.

I seem to remember that it was a problem with IE8.

Prickles, have you still got the 'cog' icon at top tight below the X? Have a look in there.

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 6 Oct 2016 11:33

I have the 3 dots below the X........which gives the menu.

I have clicked on...........Open With Internet Explorer.........and that shows Tools.

In Tools........I have found Compatibility View Settings.

I have added the websites.......FreeBMD, Ancestry and FMP

At the top it reads.......Change Compatibility View Settings

But, there is nothing I can see to click on to change it.

I hadn't listed any sites either until this morning Ken.........in the hope that it would solve the problem.

I might just give me lappy a good kick and see what happens. :-|

Thank you for trying to help. I will keep fiddling.

I used to have this problem using Internet Explorer. Spent ages editing posts to remove all the spaces. Cured it by switching to Firefox. Works fine now.

Another problem with IE was viewing images I'd uploaded to trees on Ancestry, just got an error code. OK with Firefox.

Hi Andrew

I remember that we both talked about that problem some time ago.

I still have that problem with Ancestry.......(Not as bad as it is the last couple of days though)

I don't like changing things but I just might have a go using Firefox as it drives me mad having to keep editing Ancestry records on the research boards.

Thank you. x

Nobody should use any version of Internet Explorer any more (*) and if they do all sorts of hassles and security problems are inevitable.

If using Windows 10 Microsoft have a new browser (quite good) "Edge".
Win7 and Win 10 users can also use any of Firefox, Opera based on Chrome), Chrome, PaleMoon (based on Firefox) .Is anybody still using Win8? Jeez.

XP Luddites are a bit stuffed but Firefox32 will still install and run inc latest updates.
VISTA holdouts will know where to go.

good luck

(*) corporate and govt intranets may use IE going back to IE6. It is a big part of why large cos and the govt get hacked and lose data but hey there is nothing you can do about it. :-(

Well I never! All these years I've been happily editing, it appeals to my OCD but plays havoc with the RSI.

Oh dear :-(

You could always cheer yourself up by wondering what the 80+ lurkers thought you wanted help with :-D

'Should I iron front and back or side creases in my bloomers?

How often should I vacuum my front step?
