Right or wrong ?

As adults can't we decide ourselves without anonymous people telling us how we should think ?

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 12 Nov 2016 18:49

couldn't agree more tell UKIP Daily Mail the Tea Party Melanie Philips the BNP J T Rump Al De'esh V Putin Marie le Pen and their many friends to go and crawl back into their holes 'cos we are quite capable of being nasty to other people without their help or advice.

oh! you mean the Daily Mail not giving away Lego anymore ?
That is simply a result of Lego applying what has been company policy for many years. So, tough, get used to it. Perhaps the Daily Fail could give away baby food supplements instead.

Slagging off Denmark (one of the UK's few friends in the EU) is not going to help St Theresa get the special deal she is hoping for ...

Oh I have no problem with the campaign in so much as it's freedom of thought etc, and as far as Lego goes Who cares either way......but...if a group feels inclined to try to tell the unwashed masses how they should think shouldn't they at least be up front and say who is funding them ??

I can source as many items as I want to obtain a somewhat balanced story don't need someone trying to totally control my press.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 12 Nov 2016 20:24

like UKIP for instance?
the Tory party?
both mostly funded by overseas expats

the "establishment" in any country does not give a damn what "the hoi polloi" might or might not think still less tell them what they may think. What is the point?

any kind pf poltical campaign won't get off the blocks without money as 38 have found out. For those that do have funding it is not so difficult to suss out for those that care.

Most don't which is why brexit is going to be the biggest slash n burn since the Slater Walker group. It will be the final solution for the English working classes confi9ned to a prison of their own making.

Agreed with regards the parties mentioned and Labour and Uncle tom Cobble and all

No one can honestly think any political isn't trying to brainwash you why else have their conferences !!

The Stop funding group say they have no funding which has to be a pot of you know what.....

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 13 Nov 2016 05:36

It seems that they don't have any major funders from some research I have done.

I didn't know much about them until the Lego campaign but it seems sincere.

The reason it was founded by Richard Wilson

I am not writing about who's wrong or who's right but it all goes to show everyone operates to his own agenda.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 13 Nov 2016 08:56

I think stopping the hateful propaganda and outright lies can only be a good thing but that doesn't sell newspapers.

They are even more dishonest than some politicians.

Dermot

Dermot Report 13 Nov 2016 09:29

Do not indulge in rancour or hatred.

If we continually talk about what we hate, we’ve little or no time to speak about the things we do like.

Is it possible for the media to avoid nasty & potentially life-threatening journalism?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 13 Nov 2016 09:43

Of course it isn't. It's their job to carry bad news as well as good news.

However, it would be good if they were honest and stopped scare-mongering.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Nov 2016 10:27

Not to say ALL media doesn't scaremonger at times but what examples do you have for recently...just curious

Whilst agreeing that emotive language does encourage extreme reactions, no newspaper is free from that 'sin'. They all have their own agendas.

Are you sure the Stop Hate campaign was founded by Richard Wilson, the actor? The Huffingham Post article says 'an NGO worker from London'

maggiewinchester Report 13 Nov 2016 10:41

Det, if you click on the link Guinevere gives, it takes you to Richard Wilson - the author's - blog, and explains why he started the campaign.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Nov 2016 10:43

Yes, but the Huffungham article doesn't describe the Richard Wilson as an actor. It's not an uncommon name.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 13 Nov 2016 10:45

I didn't say it was the actor.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Hillary Clinton added a comment to this thread.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Nov 2016 11:10

Agreed the title was open to misunderstanding but not so much they were calling for their heads on spikes. To compare that to the Nazis is stupid. Most judges like most MP from all parties have no idea how the average person on the street feels. It didn't help their cause that the judges all seemed to have strong European connections.
I love the Independent as reading the comments showed it's still doing what it set out to do......people from all stand points debating.

At what point do we call it scare mongering rather than making people think about something. Why shouldn't the public know who those judges were and what their backgrounds were.....has anyone said that isn't really their background...

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 13 Nov 2016 11:25

Judges don't need to know how the 'average' person feels - if there is such a thing as an average person.

They are there to uphold the law, independent of parliament.

The headline (especially the one that was withdrawn) was despicable. The only use I would have for the DM is for toilet training a puppy...
