While many would agree with you David, there is another perspective.

High infant or child mortality is common in many 3rd world countries if the parents can't afford to pay for treatment or buy food. They'll have many children in the hope that some of them will survive.
Those children will then help to work the land & support their parents in their old age.

The problems of Somalia are not at all due the reasons I given by David who has a ccepted hook line and sinker the position of neo colonialists and liberals. The most sig problem has been the invasion of the country by Italy in the 1920s which led to the wasteland under the heel of Ethiopia. Since independence Somalia has suffered from rule by isis backed war Lords and high energy prices for cooking which has led to trees being cut down for firewood. The loss of trees and grass has decimated the cattle hence the hunger. Somalia and Ethiopia are also in the front line of regions suffering from climate change.

Somalians are highly intelligent friendly people living in a failed state with few friends.

There is no such thing as a welfare state in trad pastoral societies such as Somalia. Large families are a necessity as the children help with the farming. Cattle herding and provide for the old. Welfare and work is based on the extended family and the tribe.

Western gov, the Vatican and aid agencies have done endless harm to such societies in e Africa, Afghanistan and so on. Now we are reaping the whirlwind from the planted dragon's teeth

I said no such thing.

Another dimension to the situation is that as militia move around the country, it does not buy food but simply takes what it wants, leaving farmers with little or no food to feed families.

Even when a bank lends money to women and not men for farming, believing that women will feed their families, it is of limited use if their produce is taken by the militia.

One can see why some young boys who may have stayed and farmed, join the militia - empty stomachs. That is another reason why there appear to be fewer males to be seen tilling the land.

I havent woven anything the Brits are running attempts at bilateral sweetheart deals in e Europe in return for support in the upcoming negs. The deals would be financed by the foreign aid budget. Paris and Berlin are displeased and have warned London that such actions could result in no negs at all apart from the brexit bill itself.

So the UK is spending some money to look after home rather than for instance funding a girl band..and Germany and France the two countries who will have to pick up the financial slack are sulking what a surprise....

Rollo, that is actually complete rubbish, and you know it. War, starvation, destitution, all these dire situations were alive and well in Africa long long before brexit. It's an insovable problem while countries persist in fighting each other and their economies are constantly wrecked by warfare. Help for problems caused by natural disasters are almost always immediately wrecked, leaving the population once again starving and displaced. These constant conflicts are not the sole fault of his country, though I'm sure you'd like to convince us otherwise
