Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 13:27

Unfortunately, if you listen to all of the advice over the years we'd eat nothing.

ann Report 4 Apr 2017 21:54

I do agree if we did listen to everything we would not eat nothing. A varied diet and a little of everything in moderation x

Don't think like that Barbra. I am diabetic and everyone thinks I have lived the high life of sugar. I cant stand sweet things. Think its the luck of the draw. xx

According to an article in The Telegraph - Acrylamide is a chemical which forms naturally in both manufactured and home cooked food as a result of burning and cooking at high temperatures such as baking, frying, grilling and roasting.

The previous paragraph includes burnt toast & overcooked roast pototes!
https://tinyurl.com/l69z8hx

So even if Rollo followed the suggestion to make his own, he/his guests are still at risk of consuming too much acrylamide.

Interesting discussion point. I follow of the philosophy of (within reason) a little of what you fancy does you no harm. We do have to consider that many of these reports base their findings on feeding mice great quanities of the product & nothing else.

When my granddaughter was on the way I spent many hours trying to find safe products for babies. a very well known manufacturer was one of the worst for the amount of bad chemicals in their products.
I also read where it was said that by the time a woman has made up her face, she has something like 283 chemicals on it ,
Hair dyes are bad also.

Sodium Laurel sulphate (sp) is still in many products I haven't as yet found a shampoo without it -It makes items more bubbly .I did buy an expensive bathing set only to find that also had S.L.S in it.

As I do not possess a degree in chemistry I had to give up my search but do feel more should be done to stop unsafe items being available. But of course that would
mean less profits to be shared including those who should be protecting us!

The same applies to much of the food we eat Caroline is right there.

Ann my hubby out on business for his employers became very sick and I had to get the doctor to check what caused it. It turned out to be campiler bactor (sp) which Doc said had come over here in chickens from America. Not long after he was diagnosed with Diabetes. Gets lots of medical attention now and is nearly 80.

Barbara very Best Wishes for you beating the cancer again- and do not leave xxxx

Years ago, but then, years after we'd been told how 'good' olive oil was for us, it transpired that heating olive oil released carcinogens - yet still, cookery programmes tell us to 'wham in the olive oil', heat up and 'blast' in the food!!

I've gone back to lard.

Governments have, time after time, tried to tell us how/what to eat - only to be proved wrong a few years later - its all down to funding of research.
The sugar industry is hardly likely to fund research that proves sugar is bad for you, are they? They 'prove' it's good, and the clueless government goes with it. :-S

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 00:38

Lard certainly gives it a different taste for sure.

Acrylamade is present in just about anything grilled roasted or toasted Inc home cooking. However the amount present is far higher industrial products such as crisps and pringles. Acrylamide is on the cancer watch list in the USA and EU.

USA chicken cannot be legally sold in the EU due to the poor raising standards and subsequent use of chlorine to clean up the carcase. UK sourced chicken esp budget should be well cooked cos there is a sig problem with camphylobacter. Then there is the problem if supermarket salads...

As Caroline says the enemy is all around - plastic bottles, bathroom products, ready meal and coffee containers.

All the same most of this c p can be avoided with a little effort and a fair bit of money saved too.
