So what is everyones view on the National Trust plan to drop the word Easter from their egg hunt.....don't want to upset anyone now do we :-|

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 14:24

The hunts are sponsored by Cadburys...a firm that was started by a Christian....though obviously not run along the same lines now just a money making business.

According to the lunchtime news the NT have now changed their wording to "............. at Easter". Which probably means they can do egg hunts at any time of the year ;-)

Don't get me going on hot cross buns being available all year round.

Cadbury's was started by Quaker. Quakers don't celebrate Christian festivals so the Bishop was a bit daft to mention the company spitting on him. He wouldn't celebrate Easter at all, let alone with Easter eggs.

Can't see what the fuss is about.

Easter eggs......where's the harm....so why drop the word Easter...

Hot Cross buns all year are just stupid but then the eggs are available in some forms often during the year...

Hot air

Caroline

Bless, wrong thread

Caroline

Whilst Quakers may not follow Christian holidays; don't know I'm not one; the whole aspect of Easter is the Christian faith. The obvious conclusion is they dropped the Easter so as to not offend others...how can it be offensive...you don't hunt eggs any other time of the year. :-S

Not the wrong thread easter eggs are a big fuss about nothing at all ie hot air.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 18:33

Pointless.....they'd melt.

Easter eggs are a tasty treat albeit over priced and "not good for you"

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2017 19:53

The Advert on TV begins with the words "This Easter ..."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ8U-PSYY_M

So a fuss about nothing. No one is "dropping Easter" at all.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 21:11

But the printed words say egg hunt not Easter egg hunt like every other year.

Easter is (or was) basically a pagan festival anyway...

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 21:16

Granted but the church follows it so good enough for me.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2017 21:17

So what? It's introduced with the words "This Easter ..." fairly clear what they mean.

Easter fun -

No one is getting rid of Easter. Ridiculous.

Hmm...by the National Trust own admittance on their website...they did drop the word Easter but have now added it back...and with a video it's possibly quicker/cheaper to add a word to the voice over rather than change the pictures.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2017 21:41

What made you think it was to avoid upsetting someone? Who did you think would be upset?

The Bishop and the press got it wrong, not for the first time. Very silly.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 21:46

They didn't get it wrong the NT have admitted they dropped it and have replaced it.

Why do you think they dropped it in the first place?

It's taken place on Easter weekend, when we traditionally hunt for easter eggs.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2017 21:58

They didn't drop it. The word Easter is all over the NT and the Cadbury websites and always was - just not on the eggs this year. No big deal. The sponsors wanted their name to be bigger on the eggs, I imagine.

So it wasn't dropped, apart from on the wrapping.

Who did you think would be upset? You didn't answer me.

We'll have to agree to disagree but they did drop it/not add it/added it later

Not sure why you're being so confrontational over this.

As a Christian, I find it strange they dropped it.
