Not one single school around here doesn't allow Christmas celebrations. Where on earth do you live?

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 19:18

Well I'm younger and I've seen forms asking for Christian names up until the last decade or so.

My kids schools didn't allow Christmas celebrations for years nor Christmas trees...and plenty of schools ahve been like that for years.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Apr 2017 18:28

And way back in the 60s forms asked for forename and surname. Never seen a form asking for christian name.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Apr 2017 18:27

That's where we differ, Dermot. I'm in my 60s and know very few people my age who have been christened. Even fewer amongst my son's friends.

Never met anyone who objected to the word Christmas, Sheila, have you?

SheilaSomerset Report 5 Apr 2017 17:41

Who objects to the word 'Christmas'?

Dermot

Dermot Report 5 Apr 2017 16:44

Rather than the word 'most', I think 'many' would be more appropriate.

Just from personal experience, many of my acquaintances claim they were not baptised - but most are happy to confirm that they were. And most of them had no say in the matter as they were baptised as babies.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 16:27

As to whether most of the people in the UK these days haven't been christened, I don't know what are the %? That notwithstanding it is a Christian country.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 16:17

You said it was odd that anyone would object to the use of the word Easter...but some do object to the use of the words Christian and Christmas amongst others.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Apr 2017 16:14

Eh? What's that got to do with anything?

Most people get asked for their first name because most people in the UK these days haven't been christened, what's the problem with that?

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 16:04

And when was the last time you were asked for your Christian name not your first name

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 16:04

Like some don't object to Christmas SIGH

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Apr 2017 16:01

Odd beliefs as in believing that anyone would object to the word Easter. *sigh*

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 15:37

Odd beliefs...okay I'm a Christian that's odd !!

Never said you couldn't reply to any threads, just said you were free to not do so if you wish. I'm not upset.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Apr 2017 15:34

No, I wanted you to say who you thought would be upset, had the story actually been true. You still haven't.

I will reply to whatever threads I like. Feel free to ignore me if I reply to any of yours if it upsets you so much, even if I'm only replying to correct inaccuracies, or challenge odd beliefs.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 13:59

I'm not the one acting with righteous indignation.

No wonder the boards are so bare these days, you start a thread on a current news story and it was meant to just be that no hidden agenda.

So Guinevere the only comment you're going to be happy with is yes you are so right and I and the British press are so wrong and we are confrontational.

Again please feel free to not read any comments or threads I post if I offend so much I'll be fine with that.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Apr 2017 13:52

Forgive me for preferring the truth to made up rubbish. I'll leave you to your righteous indignation.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 13:40

Nope, for sure Dermot.

Dermot

Dermot Report 5 Apr 2017 13:38

Is there anything on this earth not capable of annoying someone, somewhere?

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 13:29

I haven't done any such thing, veiled insinuations come on.

Quite why you'd be irritated....

My statements have not been inaccurate.

As for constant sniping at another member...I know that person is more than able to speak for themselves not requiring others to "defend" them...and hardly "an offence" that can be aimed only at me.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Apr 2017 12:55

I don't work for the NT, although I'm a life long member. I just have a preference for the truth rather than veiled insinuations.

They didn't drop the word Easter online at all. Just from the page advertising the Cadbury Egg Hunt, which was Cadbury's decision. Every other page had Easter all over it, always did.

I'm not upset, I'm irritated by the inaccuracy of your statements.

And, given your constant sniping at another member, it's a bit much for you to have the nerve to call me confrontational. And you still haven't answered the question, I guess you never will.
