Thanks but not holding my breath....just because they say they will monitor they are the people who last week said unexploded shells were offensive and pull the thread...

So people feel free to post what you like as long as it's not offensive....lets get these boards moving again

Let's hope they are prepared to monitor and take action against the RR person too

Why were 3 dots offensive anyway?

Allan

Allan Report 11 Apr 2017 09:43

Dots the question :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 11 Apr 2017 11:41

I think even Genes woke up to that one too, there was no way ... or even a true story about shells could be offensive.

D C Thomson is the legal publisher of the Genes R boards and as such liable under a raft of UK law for posts which may be slanderous, disclose private informatoom. Be malicious and so on. A defence to such problems is to suspend posts which give problems and review. This facility can of course be abused which can be annoying.

Disclosing the id of a complainant even under a tag id is legally weak.

Should Genes R boards adopt a policy of leaving referred posts up without reviewing them quickly, not several days, it leaves itself open to unlimited civil damages. Which is why the policy has been to suspend and review not the contrary.

It appears that a member of Genes R has changed an important policy without reference to the legal team who may well be unaware of the change.

The new policy, if adopted, will create sig costs of moderation which Genes R has always sought to avoid.

This was the way it was in the very early days, but it was changed, presumably for these very reasons, so can't see it lasting.

InspectorGreenPen Report 12 Apr 2017 11:11

At one stage members were suspended from the boards if they had three posts reported and the complaint was upheld. I received a one month ban for doing nothing more than speaking the truth which certain members objected to. The usual reason being it caused distress etc....!

Interestingly I'm still here - they aren't.

Caroline

Caroline Report 12 Apr 2017 11:55

Causing distress is so ambiguous of course, and the RR knows it as does Genes.

Most on here would be of thick enough skin not to be offended or distressed by ...

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 12 Apr 2017 12:03

it is possible that the three dot RR'r WAS so distressed, to find only three dots when the post was opened, and felt aggrieved enough to raise the reviewing finger........

Caroline

Caroline Report 12 Apr 2017 12:09

Good point.................except...........

Common sense as always in todays society was lacking or sheer spite was over flowing.

What does ... mean in either morse code or braille anyway ?

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 12 Apr 2017 12:35

... in morse is "S"

braille, no idea!

Caroline

Caroline Report 12 Apr 2017 16:15

oh....so ... might be mildly offensive IF you knew morse code AND you had a "twisted" brain to think of possible bad/naughty words starting with s.

I can see a new thread naughty words starting with s :-D :-D :-D

I was r rd for asking how are you connected to an enquiry that seemed quite recent

I got a warning note from Gr and I queried WHY

Was told my response could be off putting to new members and look aggressive !!

Thought at the time how stupid . I was just asking as many others had so as not cross lines for someone who could have been adopted and the birth had been kept low key

Seems the person who reports can have an different agenda
