It was indeed, but I can't remember how one (I am not going to say I) did it.

LOL the ignition key /lock was a convenience, not a deterrent

in the days of customising the car with many headlights/switches and the like......I had a switch on my singer vogue that shorted out the points.......... that also disconnected the fuel pump(on my wolseley)...

Sharron, this wasn't hot-wiring - some Morris Minors actually had a 'start' button under the bonnet. ;-)

...as if I could hot-wire when I haven't even got a licence :-0 :-| ;-) ;-) ;-)

So was the Wilson pre-select switch on busses and it took me years to find out what the point of a pre-select gearbox was.

This thread has made me realize how much I have forgotten. You could turn over from under the bonnet couldn't you? I had lost that completely but have never forgotten or stopped mourning the passing of the starting handle.
