Rambling

Rambling Report 12 Jun 2017 14:25

Over the time when I was off the boards and since returning I have noticed more than several references to someone 'being on the drink'.

Now my question is, why, when someone suggested the same of me ( to paraphrase "have you been drinking?" when I took what might have been seen to be an opposite stance in a debate) did half a dozen or so fingers immediately go down on the 'Report' button to ask for that accusation be removed forthwith?

Just asking, because if someone can type a literate comment, albeit not one others agree with, it surely shows they are not drunk?( and those of us who have been here a while have seen drunken typing and it is very obvious.)

Sorry edited, because I had thrown in a double negative by mistake :-)

I've not seen an accusation thrown at someone to ask...

**are you drunk**.

narcissistic people can be heavy drinkers and they operate to outsiders near normal. even though a few errors are often in the mix. ;-) :-D

I think the person in question is more than able to voice their disapproval if they are offended. :-)

"Are you drunk" is an aggressive question or it might also be a 'I'm worried that you're not yourself" question.

Snipey little comments on a dozen threads that someone is drinking are less obviously aggressive, but cumulatively amount to the same thing, though with less honesty.

As Caroline has recognised there HAVE been comments, my OP stands, the person is well able to counter, but should they have to?

What if it happens to a different person? Someone less able to cope? Is it helpful? is it useful adult debate?

Sometimes insults met insults.

Rambling Report 12 Jun 2017 16:19

Yes indeed Caroline ( though did you intend to post 'meet' or 'merit'?) , and sometimes the initial insult is thrown because someone posts something so incredibly stupid, insensitive or provocative, it takes great self discipline not to say so in no uncertain terms.

Caroline

Caroline Report 12 Jun 2017 16:22

Sorry typo meet

Who is to say whether something is deemed incredibly stupid, as some would have us believe that many of us always only say incredibly stupid things, which is counter with that person actually being totally wrong. Then to be always misquoted or misunderstood.

Perhaps if someone is acting a plonker then it may cross someones mind that the persons mind isnt on full fuction. ;-) :-D.

DOWN THE DRAIN
(The twelve bottles of whisky).

I had twelve bottles of whisky in my cellar and my wife told me to empty the contents of each and every bottle down the sink... or else!
So, I said I would... and proceeded with the unpleasant task.

I withdrew the cork from the first bottle and poured the contents down the sink, with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I extracted the cork from the second bottle and did likewise with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I pulled the cork from the third bottle and poured the whisky down the sink, with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I then withdrew the cork from the fourth sink and poured the bottle down the glass... which I drank.

I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next and drank one sink out of it and threw the rest down the glass.

I pulled the sink out of the next glass and poured the cork from the bottle. Then I corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink and drank the pour.

When I had everything emptied. I steadied the house with one hand, counted the bottles, corks, glasses and sinks with the other, which were twenty-nine.

To make sure I counted them again... they came to seventy-four. And as the house came by, I counted them again, and finally I had all the houses and bottles and corks and sinks and glasses counted, except one house and one cork... which l drank.

Not disbelieving you Rose of course but I have really not seen that accusation, must have been when I was not around.

Rambling

Rambling Report 12 Jun 2017 18:47

Ann, perhaps "accusation" was too strong a word, and I used it in respect of the original comment directed at myself.

I'd say it wasn't as direct as that in this case...more 'strongly implied' by comments made. :-)

edited to make more sense lol.

Who's 'round' is it next?

A phrase that usually needs explaining to foreigners down at The Dog & Duck.

Rambling Report 12 Jun 2017 18:58

I don't drink much Dermot, so I will be cheap to buy for :-)

Last time I was tempted to pour myself a drink outside the house ( at a meetng of sorts, and it was only water) I managed to fling the glass across the table lol.

With my hand in its current state it's akin to the old joke
"Do you drink much? No....I spill most of it" :-)
