Andy Murray is a.good player but no personality .always looks so glum :-)

PatinCyprus Report 11 Jul 2017 08:27

Did you know Nadal banged his head just before he started the match? He was jumping up and down in a doorway when he hit his head. :-S

I'm not a Murray fan either!!

I like Andy Murray and always feel his personality (or lack of it) is mis-represented.

How would any of us like to go to work and have our expressions and personality scrutinised in minute detail or to have to have your wife and mother watch you during every day of your working life!

I, for one, hope he goes on to win the tournament again. Good luck to Johanna Konta too.

I love watching Rafael Nadal.

Right handed but plays left handed tennis?

His rituals and obsessions fascinate me !

Barbra Report 11 Jul 2017 12:20

Rafael Nadal does have some quirky moments x he did bang his head but that didn't stop a brilliant game of tennis .the crowd got their moneys worth .I just feel if they are in the limelight as Andy Murray is surely being watched and judged is part & parcel of the game .honestly he just to me doesn't seem to want to be bothered with interviews but at the end of the day its who they are & maybe if his mother wasn't always there he could relax a bit .his wife looks a lovely lady come on Andy just crack a smile now & again :-) :-D just like that x

Andy Murray has 'that sort of face', the sort that makes strangers in the street say "cheer up it may never happen" ( someone did that to me...and that was way back in my 'cheerful period' lol ) :-D

He does have a sense of humour, or he wouldn't have taken the digs when he was in the audience on 'Mock the week' with good grace. But he's focused on what he does, self critical enough I imagine?

The last time I watched was sometime in the early 80s I think, before they all started grunting so much :-D

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 11 Jul 2017 14:09

Snap, Nyx, I hate the grunting too and it put me off several years ago. Before that I loved tennis.

I was in a group that used to play regularly from about 11 for quite a few years. If the school courts were full we used to go to our local park courts - not quite as good as school because school had grass as well.

More than half a century ago now. :-0

Good luck to them but why oh why do the BBC think the majority of licence paying public with only a passing interest in Wimbledon want 13-14 hours of wall to wall coverage on BBC1 and BBC2 every day for two whole weeks?

I heard McEnroe on the radio predicting Murray would probably struggle to get through the semi's

Amokavid

Amokavid Report 11 Jul 2017 14:51

Tennis is..........BORING! in my opinion!

I can't stand it, & I agree with IGP, the BBC have a damn cheek showing it on BOTH of their channels for as long as they do!!

Joan.

Barbra Report 12 Jul 2017 12:02

Well I love tennis and thoroughly enjoy Wimbledon. :-D :-D :-D

Used to go every year back in the day when we stood. Saw some magnificent tennis players.
There is plenty of other stuff to watch on TV ;-) ;-) ;-)

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 12 Jul 2017 13:07

For those who hate sports on TV tuf there is plenty else to watch.

For myself and many more given the viewing stats Wimbledon fortnight is a high point of the year. It is a fascinating display of courage and emotion including the crowd.

Konta's win yesterday was marvellous the best bit being her selfie with the Chelsea pensioners :-)

Let us hope that brexit does not cut us off from the likes of the Kontas and Murrays.

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 12 Jul 2017 13:27

As a sports watcher - not watching Wimbledon I'm watching ladies cricket world cup, I'd like to point out that Wimbledon is on at the most 15 days of the year. Now just tot up how many hours it's actually on against the soaps. Monday - Friday 52 weeks of the year.

As a none soap watcher I find it hard to believe Wimbledon impinges on anyone's TV watching like the soaps do mine. :-S

:-D

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 12 Jul 2017 14:03

I enjoy tennis and I don't watch soaps but I have some sympathy with those complaining. Soaps may be on every day but only for half an hour or an hour each time. Wimbledon is on two major channels for virtually the whole day.

I feel very annoyed and frustrated when the programmes I do enjoy watching are cancelled in order to show snooker or golf which I don't enjoy so I understand how non tennis fans feel.

PS. I am watching the Murray-Querrey match while posting :-D

InspectorGreenPen Report 12 Jul 2017 20:29

Yes, you can watch something else but the point is that the BBC is totally funded by us licence payers who seem to have little say in what we want to thrust down our throats.

Tennis, Athletics, Snooker, Pin Pong, mostly minority interests all at the expense of everything else.

Won't be long before we have a week of the World Tiddly Winks championships.

PS, McEnroe was right. Murray would struggle to get past the semi's.
