We also watch the cricket scores on text, switching back and forth every few minutes. :-D

Test cricket on Radio4 is a modern art form. Once restricted to Long Wave Am radio and unreachable south of Angers now, thanks to the Internet, it is enjoyed world wide.

And Barstow cuts him through the covers for four bringing up a partnership 50 avoiding the follow on. Did you see that Aggers?
Aggers munches chocolate cake.

Of course we listen to cricket.

My dad used to listen to all the boxing matches on the radio ...... there were lots of them in the 40s and 50s :-(

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 14 Jul 2017 19:35

New 2020 matches as well as a couple of internats. I think there will be about 14 or 15 in all.

It's enough for OH, son and grandsons, in particular the young un who has been going to them since he was in the infants' school. All of them used to play or still play.

I can recall my grandfather LISTENING to the cricket when I was a small girl. That and opera were his passions. :-D

The BBC deal is just for T20 test matches remain with Sky.

You will be seeing a lot less of Andy Murray. His hip problem is congenital and will demand v carefull management if he is to have any chance of winning slam tournnaments.

I shall watch tennis and cricket Joy ;-) ;-) ;-)

What is everyone going to do in 2020?

You can bet your bottom dollar the BBC will show a heap of cricket now that it has won the rights to broadcast the sport again from that year - for three years, I believe.

It won't bother us, if we're still around, because we like cricket but I can imagine how it would upset a lot of people.

Gabriela and partner won the French open in June, so there high hopes for her.

But she's never been very high on the radar for other than very serious tennis fans here ................ Eugenie, Milos and Vaclav get most of the publicity, along with the veteran Daniel Nestor

Von

Von Report 13 Jul 2017 21:22

Sylvia I was watching Gabriela Dabrowski ( Canada)who was playing in the mixed doubles with Rohan Bopana
They lost to our Heather Watson and the Finn Henri Kontinen.
A very good and close match. :-D

Von ......

I know, although there has been little mention of him so far

Vasek Pospisil of Canada and the American Jack Sock also won Men's Double at Wimbledon in 2014.:-D

but Vasek hasn't done well this year.

EDIT ....... just seen the Canadian and his partner lost.

Von

Von Report 13 Jul 2017 19:46

Sylvia - there is a Canadian currently playing in the mixed doubles ;-)

Rambling

Rambling Report 13 Jul 2017 19:42

No it wasn't Sylvia :-)

It's just that the implication I took from Barbra's comment

"seriously would his hip have bothered him if he would have won ,He is a good player but admit defeat & be honourable"

was that he was somehow being a sore loser.

That was not the impression I got from the interview EDIT and his health had been mentioned before the match, I saw him stop to let someone take a selfie with him before entering the courts then as he walked away I thought I detected a bit of a limp, or at least a favouring of one side?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Jul 2017 19:28

Nyx .......

if that comment about whining is because of what I posted ......

I never ever said he was whining yesterday. I've not seen any of his interview, even now!

I said that he whined in his earlier days

I did ask if he had shown any signs of injury during the match, as a) I don't watch tennis any time and certainly not at 5 am in the morning, and b) I had not seen or heard any reports on our radio news, so all I knew was what was posted on here

I never watch his interviews, even the potted sound bites that is all we get over here.

I might add that there has been very little on TV over here on regular news casts about his hip, and indeed there has been very little about Wimbledon in general (including about our own Raonic).

Rambling

Rambling Report 13 Jul 2017 18:08

of course his hip was bothering him, I don't 'follow' tennis and even I knew that.

When you have hip problems it can 'go' at any time and you can do nothing about it, winning or losing.

He wasn't whining in his interview, he was pushed by the press until he confirmed that he was having hip problems...obvious to anyone with a bit of nous.

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Jul 2017 17:56

Rollo ..................

he was not anywhere so affable when he was younger, and all the interviews with him that I saw it was never his fault that he'd lost, or of course he was going to win, it was his right!

Maybe he's grown up, finally, but he turned me off way back when.

Barbra

Barbra Report 13 Jul 2017 11:56

When you look at the Brothers Jamie & Andy they are so different ..just think Andy should lighten up a bit he has a lot going for him ..maybe if his Mum wasn't always there he could be more relaxed :-D

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 13 Jul 2017 09:54

Murray had been limping for weeks. During the third set it was obvious that he could not move properly hence the sudden collapse in his game. In his post match interview he was perfectly normal. He thought he should soldier on despite the hip. IMHO he should have retired. He will now be out for some while.

In none of his post match intervviews this year has Murray been other than affable not whining at all. During the previous match he suffered a couple of really bad umpire mistakes without losing his rag.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Jul 2017 00:23

that's why I don't like him ............. he's always been a whiner when he's lost.

He almost seemed to always feel that he was entitled to win.

Was he limping during the match??????

I think Federer is going to win.
