2 weeks ago took snr cat to vets cos he was not eating normally and out of sorts. He diagnosed a urinary infection gave antibiotics. Initially big improvement but after 10 days not so good so I took him to another (expensive) vet. They detected a sig lump and req permission for ultrascan and xrays.

Now we have to decide...
A. Do nothing and snr cat will pass away in weeks or months at best, pain
B. Have cancerous kidney removed
If the second option goes well snr cat could be around for quite a long time with a bill that might scare even David Davis. If it goes badly it will be SnrCat's last tomorrow.

We are going for B. Tonight at least he will be home with us

Take care

If the cancer hasn't gone into the Lymph nodes
I would have the kidney removed

If it has sadly let the kitty go in peace :-( :-(

Rollo, sorry to hear the news about you cat on another thread. Hope you are able to enjoy the time you have left with him. I lost one of my cats a few years ago to heart failure, he was only 7, and they leave such a large hole in our hearts. It's so hard to come to terms with. Take care of him and yourself.

I was so sorry to read about Snr Cat. Let him enjoy the time he has left and, when the time comes to let him go, take comfort in knowing you have done the very best you could for him.

Thinking of Snr Cat, you and your OH.

He is lounging on the bed very happy to be home.
He will at least be able to enjoy the rest of the summer and maybe into the autumn.
At only 11 I had not anticipated this esp as he had recovered so well from the polyp.
So there you go nice nosh, park to play in, all jabs up to date and still the grim reaper finds a way.

I have never been very good with the loss of animals and children and as I get older worse than ever. Another suitcase, another Hall.

Enjoy your animals in the time that's left you.
Thank you for the support it is much appreciated.

enjoy the rest of the time that you have with snr cat, then let him go knowing that you have given him a good life, and given him the best that you can.

Let him go with gladness in your heart.

Rollo it is rare I pop in these days but so glad I have, making decisions for animals is so hard. I made a right one for one of mine 2 years ago and still regret it today.
OH has said about our 16yr old that if she does ever need an op the it´´s good night & goodbye, the vets refuse to even sedate her as she nearly died 2 yrs ago. I thought I would give her the chance, but as he says what if she come out of the op in the same pain and confusion as before..... so I will be holding his hand and her paw.
I have recently (2 weeks ago) taken on another oldie she maybe 13 she maybe 15 :-) I am having the decision as to whether to spay her or not :-0. .

You obviously have a heard of gold and for Lord Neville of Risca (we hope we can call him Raffles) we, (all 6 of us me, OH and 4 furbabies) wish him a long and happy life. .......Okay the 4 furbabies might not ;-)

Son has just rung up from Strasbourg. He has two cats of his own. OH took the call so I had to rush out for a big box.of tissues.

The cancer had not touched the lymph only his kidneys. He is on the mend, at least for the moment and are getting the hang of how to look after him. Any advice based on hands on experience is welcome. The two vets are useless at best an obstacle at worst so I am on the net which has been v useful. So has some Orafen normally used by oh.

Right now for pain he is on Orafen squirted into cheek, Evian water and Encore cat food with added water. He managed 150g yesterday.

This morning he has been able to jump onto his chair cushion where he slept and the bed where he is lolling around and purring in the sun.

So we shall see how it goes.

My best wishes to you and Snr cat - mine found us at the age of 10 - he chose to move in with us & we love him to bits.

He had a very bad infection and an operation (that cost an arm and a leg) but is now 14 going on 2 (behaves like a kitten).

Take it day by day and treasure your time together - and your life in the sun.

He has been going crazy to be let out. So in Petsathome found a small dog collar and lead which looked like they might fit. They did and snr cat accepted the getup gracefully which was a surprise. So off we went for a hour in the early evening sunshine. As I let him choose the way I got to learn a little of the secret life of my cat - fascinating.

No regrets at all to have chosen to keep him with us. He is obviously happy.
The future is another country.

How great to be taken for a walk by your cat :-D

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 5 Aug 2017 10:26

Well here we are over a week since we brought him home. Still going for walks on a lead in the evenings if the weather is OK. Eating enough posh nosh to put on some weight going from 6.7kg low to 7.1kg. Norm is 7.4kg. Will only drink Evian water. He passes the time looking out of the windows, lolling on an old leather sofa and my desk, helping with the cooking so he is happy if restricted in how high and how far he can jump.

I don't think he will be making many more trips to France though. If he does it will be one way.

Carpe diem.
