I call OH the old man until September then I keep quiet, as soon as he has his birthday he's the old man again. :-D

Priscilla Presley was on a documentary type programme about Elvis the other night.

Now that does look odd! And she's had her lips plumped up!
She was such a beauty. But growing older gracefully is the way to go imo

JemimaFawr Report 15 Aug 2017 20:44

My mother had all her top teeth taken out because of abscesses apparently- the week before her wedding to my Father at 19 years of age!

She was not smiling in her wedding photos :-D

PatinCyprus Report 15 Aug 2017 20:47

They used to do that in those days. Saved money to take them out. It used to be a wedding present or 21st present to have all the teeth out and false teeth :-S

JemimaFawr Report 15 Aug 2017 20:56

Yes, but my Mum was quite a toughie. After a few drinks, I think she would have forgotten about it! :-D

I would have called the wedding off had it been me :-0

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 15 Aug 2017 20:58

I'd have postponed it for a few months, she must have lisped her words at the service :-0

JemimaFawr

JemimaFawr Report 15 Aug 2017 21:02

No, it was just normal type best clothes.
She wasn't really one for dressing up!

This was my Mum at 17.

She was pretty. She's quite a bit younger than my mum. My mum married 1947 aged 26. She did have a wedding dress as her friend lent her the one she'd married in a few months earlier. No photos exist, they got lost when they moved into their house. :-(

JemimaFawr Report 15 Aug 2017 21:11

My Mum got married in 1949.
My Aunt (ATS) also got married in best normal clothes at around the same time.
Perhaps things were tight after the war.

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 15 Aug 2017 21:14

It was about rationing of clothes - the wedding dress mum wore may have been from parachute silk or more than 2nd hand maybe from before the war.

JemimaFawr Report 15 Aug 2017 21:15

Yes, I thought that may have been the reason.

Did you have a big wedding Pat?
