My cat is dying. He is now on subcutaneous hydration which is working. He can still go out and doze in the sun, enjoy small delicacies. Right now he is dozing on my lap.

He is obviously comfortable and one day will just go to sleep and not wake up. He will defy Dylan Thomas and will 'go gently into that good night'. Enjoy his presence while you can. thinking of you and of him <3 And hoping that all his last days will be sunny ones.

I am so sorry Rollo, enjoy these moments spent with Snr cat as much as you can. He has been a lucky fellow to be loved and be able to spend his last days being cared for by you and Mrs R. <3

i am sorry rollo. Lost my little kelly 3 weeks ago. She had been with me for 18 years.
Seems strange without her, no yowling for breakfast or slowly edging towards me to sneak on my lap. But still have the dog.
Hope she has a peaceful end <3

You think they will be around forever as they are healthy and doing everything they should

We forget how time flies so quickly as we all potter along but then they seem off colour . A trip to the vet is hoped to sort it but sadly sometimes the tests come back that things aren't good and there's problems

We can only do our best for our pals and then make the kindest decision for them

It's very sad losing them . On each occasion I have said never again as it hurts too much

But we did get past it and then rehomed again from the cats protection

I am glad I have Mr Tibbs who is now 4 years old and has been with us/ me now for two years

Hope your Snr boy can have some lovely dozes in the sun and be happy with his cuddles etc and then pass very quietly when the time comes

So sorry to read this about your family pet. It's never easy watching as they approach the end of life. I do hope that he will have a peaceful passing and not leave you and Mrs R feeling too upset or sad afterwards.

Feeling for you and Mrs R as cats have been the love of my life since the age of 2.

Our last pet was a Yorkie at daughters insistence so she would not miss her brother when he went to University.

He passed away in my arms with help from our vet who insisted on helping to bury him in our garden. I am telling you this as I know how you are hurting, but can assure you the hurt will be eased by knowing you were there to comfort him when he passes.

There was no way our dog was passing amongst strangers !!!!

My mother had a Yorkie when I went to uni. She reckoned the dog would keep my old man buttoned up and she did! Grand little dog. She was killed in a storm. My mum went to bits but as a widow had two cats and a rescue dog.

I have had animals of all kinds all my life along with the highs and lows that go with sharing your life with them. I am not overly sentimental - there have been vets in the family and I am a qualified butcher.

My problem with snr cat is that we are totally in synch - sometimes he comes to work with me even. I really have no idea how shall manage without him. He filled a big hole in my life when my business partner and best mec died of cancer in Paris. Fate will find a way.

I have been at my wits end finding something safe he can and will eat on an ongoing basis. Today I found something called Webbox Natural in Tesco. It is only £3 / box.
Well he has just wolfed down 100 gm at one go and gone for a snooze. Highly recommended.

Thank you for all the kind thoughts I have printed them out and pasted them into my cat scrapbook. My personal life is very old school.

Thank you very much Nyx for that. I googled a bit and have bought the Cat's Abc 1st ed 1960 Jonathan Cape who published a lot of top notch stuff notably in this context Hugh Lofting.

I would Rollo, read to him and even if he doesn't understand it all ( and he probably will) he will enjoy listening to your voice. :-)

As we go along lifes journey we are loved & love in return .our beloved pets never ask for anything but just a cuddle walk. food & water they Give unconditional love & are very special in many lives .Thinking of Snr Cat <3

Rollo, I am pleased that you have enjoyed sharing your life with your cat from which I should think you will be able to fall back on happier thoughts when the inevitable happens.

From these posts it seems that many people understand your feelings.

Two of my siblings have recently lost cats, one by accident and the other to old age so, although I have never had a cat, I know how you feel at the moment.

I wish you well and I hope your obviously adored cat does not suffer.
