I feel for you Liz. I have a double bed all to myself (occasionally, when George - other cat- decides he prefers the spare bedroom)

Betty's other favourite place is on a doormat on the back step.
I use IKEA doormats (59p each).
When the one just inside the back door gets a little grotty, I put it on the back doorstep, and Betty claims it.
Makes it a bit difficult for George to get in through the catflap, but he manages.
Currently, Betty is lying on the indoor mat - maybe the outside one is to grotty for her - it's covered in fur and slugs.

Betty's full name is Violet Elizabeth Bott - here's one reason why.
She's just stood and stared at her food - a sachet, not broken up.
I get the hint, find a fork, and break the sachet in her bowl up.
She looks at it - then goes to Georges bowl (not broken up) and starts eating his food :-| :-| :-|

Oh well, back to normality! Me and him in a double bed, it's not big enough for two plump people, but his house is small and the bedroom isn't big enough for a 5' bed as they are longer in length. The way he built in wardrobes means the bed can only go in one place and a longer bed would mean we couldn't move round the room to the window!

One load of washing already drying on the airer after a few hours out on the line and most of the other stuff put away. Another load ready for washing tomorrow.

Holidays are over too quickly.

Betty has weird sleeping habits.
She rarely comes upstairs and never sleeps on my bed (she cowers under it during thunderstorms, though).
Her normal 'abode' is the living room, with a sofa, chair and wicker chair (her scratching post) with a lovely fake sheepskin on it.
She's only started sleeping on the sofa in the past week - since I changed the covers ( I have summer and winter ones).
That's the first time in 11 years!!

A plastic bag on the floor is heaven to her, as is the cool bag if left on the floor - either on it - or in it..
A newspaper - heaven!
She even found a drawing done by my grandson, on sugar paper, and left on the table, a very acceptable 'bed' for over a month :-S

Fortunately, the lady who feeds my cats when I'm away accepts Betty's foibles,, and doesn't try to 'tidy up' the debris Betty calls 'bed'.

Cats are creatures of habit. Sleep in one place for days/weeks then somewhere else.
Usually have one on the bed somewhere.

They will be in more now summers gone.

Yup!
I don't shut my doors, because George(cat) can open them - well, he can if they open away from him.
When my daughter and family stayed, they closed their bedroom door - and woke up to find the door open and George fast asleep on their bed!

If he's shut in, and the door opens towards him, he tries to open it, but ends up making a lot of noise, as he jumps at the handle :-|

I like my sleep!

Seems that cats rule :-D :-D :-D

Tabitha Report 2 Oct 2017 13:53

On the left away from the door or in the middle if the cat wants to sleep on the edge.

Most of the time he sleeps my pillow instead - dont actually know why i have 2 pillows. I start off ok but by the morning I am practically sleeping flat on the mattress.

Some unfortunates are unlucky not to have a real bed to sleep on. Flimsy sleeping bags in shop doorways or underneath flyovers in our capital city & beyond.

Shameful! :-|

I have no lights on, but sleep with the door open - in fact only 2 doors (apart from front and back doors) are usually closed, the bathroom and 'junk' room.
The reason being - the cats!

However, I DO get woken up when next doors outside light comes on.
It's on their illegal building - with all 500watts pointing to my back bedroom window - and I sleep in the front bedroom :-| :-|
When THAT comes on, I can walk downstairs and into the bathroom without turning on a light!
I keep forgetting to tell them it's illegal :-| :-| :-|

I sleep on the right facing the door which I always leave open a tad. Stems from listening out for the kids when they were young too. But for some strange reason I need to see an open door as cant bare to be shut in. Also I hear better with my left ear, so if there is a noise in the house, I can hear it straightaway whereas if I was laying facing the left my right ear maybe wouldn't hear anything.

Last night at 4am I was woken up to loud screams. I sat up in bed and froze. I now live on a main road through a village. Eventually after two voices were heard exchanging drunken words, they faded away up the road! Thought at first I was dreaming..lol

Does everyone sleep with the door ajar or do people like complete darkness?

Florence in the hebrides :-)

I've always had a double bed - it's a 1940's number, with solid wood patterned (veneer) headboard and footboard, metal frame base with springs - it's sooo comfy.
It was mine before we married, so mine when we divorced :-D
Must be on it's 6th mattress by now - and the latest is the best - a sprung IKEA mattress - it's a vey bouncy bed :-D :-D :-D
Grandchildren love it :-|
I can't sleep on wooden slatted beds at all :-(

Mind you, sometimes, George (who is 4 inches longer than the 'average' cat), can spread himself almost across the width - which leaves me clinging on to the edge :-| :-| :-|

This week I have had a 5' bed with a comfy topper and gorgeous duvet, all to myself! When ever we holiday away we have separate rooms so that o.h can get up without disturbing me, it's wonderful!

I try to sleep on the left - furthest from the door, where my favourite pillow, lamp and clock/radio are.
However, If George (cat) is at the bottom of the bed, when I go up, chin resting on the footboard, on 'my' side, I have to sleep on the right :-\

On the right nearest the bedroom door (as that was my place when the children were babies and I could get to them quickly). Now I am still near the door but also next to the Loo :-D. I would love to sleep on the other side which is next to the open window but OH refuses to change sides :-S I also have a cat now that like Shirley sleeps in the crook of my knees :-D... Never in the crook of OH's knees.
