how pathetic is it that a code of conduct has to be drawn up for allegedly intelligent adults - this is all so ridiculous

RolloTheRed Report 8 Feb 2018 17:43

mother of parliaments
greasy toe rags
whatever takes your fancy

what gets me is the way some of them go in front of contractors doing their job as if the contractor wasn't there. The malefactors are all men of all parties but the victims are v reluctant to do anything.
I am scared of compensation claims so have dropped all work on site. we are not the only ones to do so.
The excuses are many and well worn.

Ann, as other workers have to abide by a code of conduct - you would have thought those who should be setting an example to us plebs were following it first!! :-|

If you have ever read any of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy or seen it on TV then you have a fairly good idea of our parliament including all of the dysfunctional caste of characters. The whole place exerts its malevolant spell on peers and MPs whatever their original honourable intentions. Instead of wasting £4 bn on a revamp ( which will go over budget and be delivered late, if ever) a better bet would be a new site without the wraiths that people can get to. Nottingham or Leicester for instance.

Yes, I've read the Gormenghast trilogy - can't see how it equates to Parliament though - too much openness and truth going on in Gormenhghast.

Whereas Parliament is a load of people paid too much, cheap bars, (why are they allowed to drink at work?) cheap restaurants, who, despite their façade of 'class' apparently don't know how to behave like decent human beings!! :-|

Politicians have an occupational hazard in that they alone believe they are indispensable. They seem to have a pathological unwillingness to admit to making a mistake, let alone to committing a crime of any sort.

In politics you are expected to praise a colleague to the hilt & show God-like respect when questioned about their competence. However, once a damming report comes along to highlight that person's inadequacies, they are manoeuvred towards the exit.

A code of conduct wouldn't have helped the abused children during past decades!

The influential always have some authority covering their backs.

A dead abuser cannot answer for their crimes. That's my main gripe.

OTH maybe it will deter those MCPs who think it's their right to treat female staff like their property. Sadly too many believe it's a privilege that has to be paid for by the staff in inappropriate ways.

The only parliamentary code should be that if women get touched or harassed and they don't like it .Should be a smack in the gob for the offenders.

And then let the perpertrators moan that they have been assaulted

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 8 Feb 2018 22:00

smack in the gob - love it!!!!

 Sue In Yorkshire.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 8 Feb 2018 22:02

Well thats the only thing that would put the perpertrators off of doing it to anyone else.

Caroline

Caroline Report 8 Feb 2018 22:04

Or maybe a kick somewhere...bringing tears to their eyes.

I think Caroline's suggestion is nuts.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 8 Feb 2018 22:27

Women have to be seen to be looking after themselves while at work. and a quick smack in the gob will certainly put men off trying sexual harassment and once word gets round that women are sticking up for themselves then all the sexual harassment should stop.

Caroline think your idea goes too far.

If sexual harassment happened back in the 50/60's we used to get the person on his own and give him a good smacking.leaving a couple of bruises on their faces which would put them off touching any woman again.

Caroline

Caroline Report 8 Feb 2018 22:33

Well I was joking but a few tears rather than a couple of bruises.....

 Sue In Yorkshire.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 8 Feb 2018 22:51

But a kick where you said would leave bruises maybe not seen but still felt and a woman would only do that as a last resort. and I mean back in the 50/60's.
