Does anyone know if one day of BP tablets are missed, will it have serious consequences?
Mum waited for her repeat prescription to be delivered but it wasn't the normal meds so she took them back to Boots.
Only problem was, it was a Friday and they couldn't get hold of GP.They gave her 2 tabs. One for Sat and 1 for today.
She will ring surgery tomorrow and sort it out.But she doesn't have a tablet for 7am tomorrow.
If she manages to get another prescription by lunchtime, will it affect her not having taken her med at 7am ?
She was very distressed last night telling me about the mix up although I haven't managed to work out what really happened and she cant remember when she ordered them.
Mum gets terribly muddled sometimes.
Ive reassured her that being a little late tomorrow taking it shouldn't affect her as I was trying to keep her calm.
Any body on BP meds who has ever missed or been late taking a tab, advice please would be good.
Thanks

I wouldn't mind betting she survived with much higher blood pressure before they were prescribed so she will survive a couple of days.

Worrying about not taking them will probably cause more damage than not taking them.

It doesn't matter.
What is more important do NOT double up following the missed day.

You can no longer expect the same "brand" of a prescribed medicine. Patients will just have to get used to it - purchasing drugs in this way is avng the NHS a lot f money.

As others have said, she’ll be fine.

If she is getting muddled, might it be worth suggesting her daily medication is delivered in dosette boxes? The GP has to give the initial request to her chosen pharmacy. They (ought) to be able to apply for repeat prescriptions automatically in a timely fashion.

Yes she will be fine, as Rollo has said she must not double up to compensate.

Missing one will do no harm. As others have said, do NOT double up the next dose.

Andy

Who forgets to take his all the time.

Thankyou for all your replies.
Its a worry when you live faraway. Doctor I think either changed her tablets or prescribed something else and forgot the BP prescription!
Because it wasn't her usual meds she took them straight back on Saturday.Shes very stuck in her ways and doesn't like change.

Yes Sharron, her worrying will cause more of a problem.
Manage to reassure her this morning but I know come tomorrow morning she will be panicking.Said she would get a taxi at 7am to GPs and I said it doesn't open til 8.30.
Thesedays she has no patience and commands things to be done when she says jjump!

Anyway hopefully surgery will sort it and her BP will be fine.
Thanks for all your advice
Florence in the Hebrides

PS shes good at taking her meds daily as she has a very rigid routine.

I'm also on BP medicine, have been for years.

As everyone else says ................ it doesn't matter if you miss 1 day. Even 2 days could be OK. But it is important NOT to take more than prescribed dosage next day.

I've missed a day here and there, plus had major time problems when travelling overseas .............. Canada for example is about 19/20 hours BEHIND NSW in Australia. That's usually more than 1 day behind by the time I take all my prescriptions when we've gone down under.

I read a book last month, Too Many Pills., by James Le Fanu. I haven't taken any since.

My late alcoholic ex who lived with his alcoholic mother attempted suicide and his mother was convinced he had overdosed on Yeastvite and it wouldn't have surprised me either!

Florence asked a perfectly steraightforward question and received a number of useful and accurate replies. It is not really the place for one of Bob's gormless jokes Sylvia. I am far too long in the tooth for my leg to be pulled by anybody.

Ive forgot to take mine lots of times and am still here to tell the tale ;-)

Kense Report 20 Aug 2018 09:18

The leaflet that comes with the medicine should tell you what to do if you forget a dose.

Mine says:
"Do not worry. If you forget to take a tablet, leave out that dose completely. Take your next dose at the right time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose."

Best not to read the possible side effects part though. ;-)

Gormless joke? I am deadly serious. If you will excuse the pun. Even my doctor says that my beta blockers and blood pressure tablets are so low as to be of no effect. I have never suffered from high blood pressure in my life, it has always been at the high end of normal. After my first heart attack in 2003 I was put on lots of tablets, none of which stopped me having two more. Echo cardiograms have shown that my heart is working normally for a man my age, it was just the plumbing causing the problems. A by-pass has sorted that out.
