Ken Dodd was undeniably a good singer.

Morecombe and Wise were so much part of my childhood I could never say anything against them......In our household Christmas day wasn't complete without them on TV, neither was Sunday mornings with my dad playing their LPs before the Archers.

As a child I didn't 'get' Charlie Drake as he annoyed me, but I loved Norman Wisdom.

I didn't like Ken Dodd when I was younger, but having heard him on Radio 4extra repeats I can appreciate his clever humour.

Like others on this thread, I couldn't stand Norman Wisdom, nor Charlie Drake.

Tastes change over the years; some humour, and comedians, seem timeless whereas others tend to live in a particular period.

I was an avid fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus, but when I watched a rerun of the series I was left wondering how I'd ever seen anything funny in it.

The Two Ronnie's I would consider timeless and are still a source for the style of some of my 'stories :-D

Hey Robbo the Gorm where did you find your Gorm as you were Gormless earlier today???

In an interview, Morecombe and Wise were asked what they would be if they weren't comedians. Quick as a flash, Eric came back with "Mike and Bernie Winters"
Never could stand Norman Wisdom.
I went to a lads weekend at Potters a few years ago. The advertised comic cried off and they got Norman Collier as a stand-in. He did the same unfunny act that he was doing 40 years earlier. Including crouching on a chair with his jacket half off pretending to be a chicken. Hilarious?

I never thought Norman Wisdom funny either Sharon

Sharron Report 21 Aug 2018 18:16

I wasn't very keen on Morecambe and Wise or Tommy Cooper and truly disliked Norman Wisdom.

I think the funniest man I ever heard was Chick Murray.

I think he bought ait of laughter into a lot of peoples lives, but personally I didn't find him even faintly funny. Bit of a bore actually!! Much preferred Morcombe .and Wise, Dads Army, and The Two Ronnies,!

I only ever saw him on TV. I wasn't keen on him or Tommy Cooper. My Dad used to roll around laughing at both. But I didn't dislike either of them, just didn't find them funny (or Freddy Starr either.)

Madge Report 21 Aug 2018 17:39

Young and Old may loved him , I wasn't one of them, for me he was about as funny and entertaining as a rather bad headache. I can not comment for his live shows as I never found him funny on screen I certainly would not of been able to sit through a live show. My opintion of him thats all :-D

I saw him live on stage too Allan and wasn't sure whether I'd like a whole evening of him, as I wasn't keen on him when I was younger, but he didn't disappoint! He had everyone chuckling all night and people all left with smiles on their faces when he eventually finished!! Incredible how he remembered all the jokes and could fire them off one after another all night, with no swearing as Caroline said. He supported many charities, was a 'one off', a trouper who brought laughter into so many people's lives for many years. How many of us do that? :-)
