Always wear socks with sandals; not only does it mark us out as Pommies in Australia, but it also keeps the sand out of your toes :-D

Heaven knows how people cope on the nude beaches ;-)

Very shortly after we arrived in Oz I was staying with my brother. His wife, from whom he was divorced offered to show us some of the local beaches. This particular was warm by UK standards and, just for a joke, I suggested to my SiL that I would go for a paddle and started to roll up my trouser legs (nothing masonic at that time. That would come later :-D) and I also proceeded to get a clean hanky and started making a knot in one corner

"What are you doing?" she screamed, much to the amusement of several passers-by

"Just going to stick a hanky on my head while I'm having the paddle" I responded.

Well she move quickly away as though I'd just told her that I was suffering from some highly contagious disease :-D :-D

I should explain that even though I'd known my late SiL since she was fifteen and I was twelve, they had left for Australia in about1966/67 before I had developed my sense of humour so she actually believed me and was mortified to be associated with me :-D :-D :-D

Mind you, most people who know me are mortified to be in my company and that includes my wife and daughter :-| :-D :-D :-D

Wonder if Allan needs any socks to wear with his trousers or is he one of the cool set sandals no socks & a hanky on his head can just imagine ;-) :-(

And again we're back to his love of trouser leg rolling and pinnys.... :-)
