Hello again, Everyone. I hope you and your family and friends are well.
You may recall in early October my friend Allan's 100th birthday noted in this thread.
I took photos of the walls in his apartment recently - with his full permission - so you could see the cards he received.
I thought you might like to see them strung around his apartment
I counted 110 cards on the walls; unseen on a table are more cards.
Unfortunately, what you see per the link below is one long thin card from all I stitched together as best I could from four photos I took around the room.
It will give you an idea what such a great number of cards look like!
You will likely need to zoom in - possibly download it if you wish - to see a clearer picture.
Sadly, Allan hasn't been 100% recently. He was feeling better the last time I spoke with him, I'm very pleased to say.
Allan again asked me to pass his warm thanks to all of you kind enough to send birthday wishes.
He really is a lovely fellow, take it from me.
My thanks also to you as well.

Belated birthday wishes to Allan, that is quite an achievement 100 years of age and seeing himself on a census.

It's only lil' ole' me on a rare visit for a brief update! 
I trust everyone is well and also 'up to date' with both Covid jabs. 
I am rather surprised at those who do not wish to have jab(s). Each to their own, however! It's a personal choice.

First thing ... the answer for Bobtanian - never forget a pal. 
The complete answer to last year's question above re 68º F = 20º C ... This is the correct temperature for the photographer's 'darkroom'. 
It is most important for developing film and printing photographs that all chemicals are kept at this constant temperature for perfect results. 
Remember the clue I wrote ..."Any ideas developing?"
Now you know!! 
Darkrooms are exceedingly far and few between these days.
However, they ARE available (somewhere) for developing and printing ... if you can find one! 
We (all of us reading) were taught imperial measurements.
A teacher (presumably?) instilled into me at a very young age this (one and only) metric temperature of 20º C is equal to ('good old') 68º F. 
I have absolutely NO idea who or why back then! However, I have never forgotten it. 
That's my (true) story and I'm sticking to it!! 

Today, 5th October 2021, is my friend and neighbour Allan's 101st birthday.
He was the subject of this original post last year for his 100th birthday, you may recall.
I tried to speak to him yesterday so that I could arrange a time in the morning to take him a birthday card, along with my home-made cupcakes and banana bread which he likes. 
(I am delighted to know there IS someone who likes my baking! Mary Berry ... eat your heart out!) 
His son-in-law contacted me within the hour and told me Allan regrettably had a fall in his apartment very recently. He is presently in hospital nearby - possibly for a while - with a hip problem. 
How sad is his predicament at this age?
I do wish Allan well and a speedy recovery.

However, by remarkable co-incidence, I'd like to note to you that not only is Allan 101 ... but one of my fellow RAF Squadron Association Members in the UK was also 100 in mid September! 
It was also the annual squadron association reunion several days ago in Oxfordshire and I understand this dear well-retired airman attended. 
I have met and chatted with him at previous reunions, however.
Sadly, I could not attend this year.
I sent a birthday card to him almost a month ago; I do hope it arrived in time. 
He proudly served on the squadron when Short Sunderland flying boat aircraft was in service very many moons ago. 

You may not be too surprised when I say this squadron association member is ... of all names ... Alan!!

Wanna live to be a Centurion? 
You are in with a very good chance if your name is Alan or Allan, it seems! 
I suggest: change your name by deed poll soonest! (Ladies perhaps become Alana!)
I believe these two lads will be very wise to buy a lottery ticket ASAP! 

I would like to wish A Very Happy Birthday to both Alan and Allan and thank these two dear gentlemen for their sterling service many years ago. 
I am truly proud to know each of you!

Thanks for the update Barry. Poor Allan I do hope he is comfortable in hospital and not in pain. But a great age to reach 101. Hope that you yourself keep well Barry. It is a beautiful morning here in Gloucester (UK). I don't think you will know but sadly My lovely husband died last January. I will be pleased if the fine weather continues today as I am trying to keep up with the garden and this time of year it grows as fast as I cut it back. Unfortunately rain is forecast. I have just spoken to Allan's son-in-law. He will be visiting Allan in hospital later today and will pass your good wishes to him.

Ann, I'm really so sorry to read of your sad loss.
My sincere condolences to you.
It's always a very great shock when we lose someone we love who is so close to us.

The weather is overcast and is 15.9º C at 9.35 AM.

Hello, everyone. It's been a while since I last posted here on GenesReunited. 

However, I am posting within Allan's (birthday) thread to note that I was sadly advised last evening (Tuesday) that Allan - who was 103 (and almost a half!) quietly passed away last Saturday, 9th March 2024, at 8.30 PM. 
His daughter was at his bedside when he went into his eternal sleep. 

She told me that he gave a little cough ... and that was the final curtain for a very lovely and genuine man who was a real gentleman, and an old military fellow who served his country very well for several years. 

I am told his celebration of life will be private - family only per Allan's wishes - and I understand this has yet to be arranged. 

Allan was very pleased indeed - as were his daughter and his sons - that so many kind folk here on GenesReunited were very warm in their congratulations when I noted his 100th birthday and showed his numerous 100th birthday cards (that may still be seen per the links) dotted around his apartment. 

That's the end of an era ... and it is a sad "Goodbye" to a really lovely gentleman I have been delighted and honoured to know for a few short years. 

RIP, Allan.
