Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 10 Dec 2022 19:35

It’s not a Reggie and Jean !

Marriages Dec 1965
CLAY CHRISTINE G ROUSE WORCESTER 9D 670
ROUSE JOHN W CLAY WORCESTER 9D 670

That's already been mentioned.

That couple were living in Worcester from at least 2002 until at least 2013, per ER.

The husband probably died in 2019.

ROUSE, JOHN WILLIAM 1939
GRO Reference: DOR Q1/2019 in WORCESTERSHIRE (527-1C) Entry Number 518679887

Even if Reggie and Jean/Matty were nicknames, it seems unlikely that this is the couple whose daughter Melanie's looking for.

They had two other children - a son in 1966 and another daughter in 1971.

As the Rouse/Clay family doesn't seem to be the correct one, the only other things I can think of are:

1. perhaps Reggie and Jean weren't married, or Shirley had been born before they married, and her birth was registered under her mother's surname.

2. perhaps Shirley was adopted, and her birth registered under another name.

3. perhaps "Shirley" was a pet name, and her official name was something else.

Not Rouse but seems to fit -

Reginald F Thurston-Woolnough married Jean M Matthewson (maybe where 'Matty' comes from) in 1962.
Birth of a Shirley in right quarter of 1968.

Jean (of Scarning) died in 27th April 2022 wife of the late Reg and loving mum of Shirley

Well done, Choccy!
That seems convincing.

Shirley is at a Buckinghamshire address in 2022, per the ER on GR -

See Electoral Rolls under "search" at top right of this page.
I'll PM address to Melanie - with suitable warnings in case that's not "her" Shirley..

Googling Shirley brings up British dressage results. Lives with partner on current Electoral register in Buckinghamshire.
