I watched it all, and found it quite interesting, and sad.
Most of us can get beyond our grandparents.
Due to the system negating their existence - they couldn't.

Imagine your father/grandfather being embarrassed to mention they fought against the Nazis, because that sacrifice did nothing to alter the downtrodden life in your own country - it did nothing to change attitudes towards you, because of your colour and culture.

I did have to laugh when they met the royal family - probably not what they expected! :-D

I can understand why some switched it off. I made it to the end but have come away not understanding how they were actually connected to the people we met. ( is not those that were namedropped).

We switched it off too Joan for the same reasons. We have enjoyed the other episodes but this one was just farcical

This one is going to be very different as they are sisters not friends with a connection in the past.

I enjoyed that!
I wasn't too keen on Jonny Vegas, but as his 'real' self, he's lovely.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 14 Mar 2023 22:34

Well that was jolly interesting and funny in places.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 14 Mar 2023 20:09

Some of Johnny Vegas ancestors was in the north and was in the glass blowing industry, if that was Sowerby glass then it is possibly the same as my Sowerby lot :-)

If anyone is interested in Hugh Bonneville's family history I have just finished reading his autobiography. It's called 'Playing under the Piano' A good read, a bit 'luvvie' in places but enjoyable.
