Hi all, I've given this a nudge as I'm suffering quite badly with my IBS at the moment and nothing seems to work although I am under a lot of stress as hubbie is quite ill. Any suggestions please.

My daughter suffered from birth with bowel problems, and i was back and forth to childrens hospital. when she was 4yrs old they admitted her as a day patient for observation. They diagnosed IBS, but until her teens my family GP wouldn't accept the result saying she was too young...shes now 26yrs old and has good days bad days, is she the youngest so far on here?...moe

Oh silly girl, why on earth didn't she take her medication with her? I used to get it when I was a teenager, but had no idea what it was, just used to be in dreadful pain. Works Nurse used to say it was ovulaton pain and have me rest on a bed in the sickroom for a while. Have it now but it is caused by stress.

I dont know much about this but have been speaking today with a mother of a teenage girl who suffers from this. The girl went to London last week to start a trining course for grooming horses. Something she has wanted to do for a long time and is her chosen career. When I asked how she was getting on the mother told me she was only there a day and the stress of being away from home caused her IBS. Such a shame as she never had her tablets with her so they had to send her home again

I think this thread is a very good idea. Many years ago we went on a family holiday to Spain and took a 15yr old friend of our daughter, whom we had known well since she was 4 yrs old. Her parents were in the middle of a horrendous divorce, her mother was selling the family home and they were downsizing and of course the GCSEs were on the way. Well after a few days I could have killed her. She complained constantly about her stomach cramps, diarrohea, didn't want to eat, etc etc. We had the talk about toxic shock syndrome from tampons. Even my daughter got fed up with her. I offered to take her to the doctor, to fly her home, bought her special foods, everything. Now if only her mother, a NURSE, or her father, a DOCTOR, had mentioned that she suffered from IBS we might have understood what was the matter with her. We never took another child's friend on holiday again and I am happy to relate she recovered to a good extent and is now in the final year of her degree at Oxford University. Grrr!!! Please let your friends know if it could be relevant!!!

Maggy, There are so many symptoms which may include; Abdominal pain and spasm; Diarrhoea, constipation, or both; Bloated stomach; Urgent need to empty the bowel; Incontinence; A feeling of incomplete emptying of the bowel; A sharp pain lower down in the rectum; Nausea, belching and vomiting; Headache or backache. I have quoted this from Dr Miriam Stoppard who is a patron of the IBS Network, an organisation I belong to, being a sufferer myself. The IBS Network is a voluntary organisation dedicated to advising, helping and supporting people in the UK who have this complaint. There are currently around 3,000 members. It costs £24 per year to belong; even at that rate they still have difficulty in managing to make ends meet. They send out a quarterly magazine called Gut Reaction to all members. Let me know if you'd like their address. Alternatively you can e-mail them at: (have tried to give the e-mail address but, for some reason, am unable to!) Brian, ;< O )

Hi Sharon I only need to take half the dose of Solpadol because they're quite strong and work well for me, so that's one 4 times a day. They are prescription only. Mandy:)

Well, unlike some other people I could mention who are too busy polishing their haloes and bantering wittily, I will add a relevant post to this thread ;)))) Sheila, my IBS improved dramatically when I gave up a stressful job, but still get it from time to time. My poor son is worse though, he worries dreadfully which always brings on an attack. He's just about to take his A levels and is constantly dosed up with Colofac and Fybogel. My GP also told me that the Solpadol painkillers I have for bad days of the ME are good for IBS, because not only do they help with the cramps, but they act as a muscle relaxant too. Mandy :)

Gwynne wasnt an insult its just the way you three throw comments back and forth could sit for hours just listening to you. And if you polish that halo any more you will wear it out
