If the women had used the embryos just before they parted, would he have been able to force her to have an abortion? Surely the fact he gave his consent for sperm to be used should be enough for a pregnancy to go ahead. He is able to go ahead and become a father. The option for her to become a mother has now been taken away for ever. Sometimes the Law is an Ass. Jacky |

I don't think she can carry a child herself (??). Adoption is very unlikely, with her medical history. I just feel so sorry for this woman, who was made promises in a loving relationship. As Muffy said, if there had been any doubts in her mind, she would have chosen to have her eggs frozen. It would be a completely different matter if she had been completely infertile, she would have had no hopes to cling onto. But to know you have fertilised embryos, and to know that they must now be destroyed is a very cruel and ironic blow. It leaves a nasty taste in my mouth - he doesnt want children with HER - but he did once. OC |

I think Muffy has said exactly what I think about this case, I feel so sorry for the woman and horrified that those six? embryos will now be destroyed, they are to my mind already his and her children, he fathered them when he agreed to supply sperm for them to be fertilised. I heard him say on tv that he didn't want children that wouldn't be raised the way he thinks children should be raised, well he should have thought about that when he agreed to the procedure. As the woman's father said, if he had not agreed she could have had the eggs stored and used an anonymous donor and she would not have had this problem. I think his attitude stinks and I hope he now finds himself infertile for life, impotent too for good measure. If only he would reconsider and give permission. |

Like lots of you I fee so sad for this woman, and I hope that either someone or something will come in to her life that will help to ease her heartbreak. As for HIM i hope his meat and two veg drop off and he never sleeps with a clear conscience ever again. I may have it wrong but does he have a new partner I would not be happy being with a guy who was so cruel. This is just what I think, all the others in my house are on his side but then apart from one of the dogs I am the only female !!! PamXXXX |

I have to put my bit in again here, Muffy has stated exactly how I feel but also, the man is saying he wants children with and when he wants------good for him, at least he will be able to-hard luck if he can't----but he has taken away the right for this poor lady to have any natural ones of her own. Selfish is not quite strong enough. It would have been a completly different matter if she had not been able to have children before her cancer, she would have come to terms with that but now she has to go through what will be the death of 6 of her possible children. I am dis heartened by all this, what the poor woman must be going through Janet |

David It is possible that non of the embryos would survive but at least there would have been the chance but I do understand what you say. Who is to say that she may have wanted all to work. Janet |

Pam makes a good point - second wives should take a good hard look at how he treats the first wife. Second wife may also be an ex wife one day... OC |
