Aged 14yrs a factory worker putting the handles in Sainsbury's paper carrier bags - they used to shoot out of this blooming machine soooo fast and l was supposed to catch 12 one after another - l lasted 3 weeks!!!! lol (William Whiteheads in Worthing Sx) Then to a knitwear factory where l had to keep the spools topped up - lasted about a month!!! (Charles Kirk Worthing) ermmm shoe sales assistant lasted 3 yrs - can remember one christmas l had to climb the ladder to fetch a pair of mens shoes, when l got them l shouted 'Oiii' and threw them to the man (we'd all had a couiple of crafty glasses in Hepworths nextdoor!!! lol). Then l moved onto office junior for the local newspaper, progessed to switchboard operator, then ran one of the offices (small and not a busy one mind) - getting better!!!! Hope your not counting cause there's more to come yet - lol Invoice clerk, then another job as switchboard operator, then onto a progress chaser/clerk - then l stopped to have the kids for 14 yrs. Next the bestes jobs - an OT assistant, then within the same job l became entertainments organiser (more like an organiser of chaos!!! lol). Then p/t classroom assistent for adults with learning difficulties at a college in Sx, also same college p/t assistant to a disabled lady who was doing an art dgree. Then we moved to Wales and became a classroom assistant for adults with learning disabilities (again) loved the last 3 jobs but had to give up due to ill health. Had quite a few jobs have'nt l - actually l have'nt mentioned them all, there were a couple more office jobs and l also went back to one to do care work - ohhhhhhh yeh and l did 3 cleaning jobs:o)))))))))))))))) jude sarf wales :o)

Chemist shop assistant for 6 months until I was old enough at 16 to join GPO as a telephonist. Worked in various telephone exchanges in London and around - Epsom, Liberty, Continental, International, Balham finishing at Directory Enquiries at Putney. Left to have first child, then worked as a controller for a car breakdown & recovery firm in the evenings until I had my 2nd child. Then did part time driving and clerical work for a firm of motor factors. Ran creches at a local school, volunteer helper at local playgroup and school, ran local mother and toddler group. Had 3rd child in 1980 and registered as a childminder, which I did for almost 25 years. Had 4th child in 1984. Ran a support group for childminders. Also worked part time in the evenings for a local breakdown and recovery garage answering the phone etc. Retired from childminding when my youngest grandchild started full time school, then worked as a Nanny for 18 months for my best friend's daughter. Then did part time clerical and admin work for local vehicle breakdown & recovery company (leaving this week). I also managed to fit in serving on various local committees including schools and our local village hall. Now I hope husband and I can do stuff for us - but somehow I doubt it as elder daughter is expecting her 2nd child in May! No rest for the wicked - but I wouldn't have it any other way ;o))) Sue xx

Clerk in bakery when I left school then a receptionist/cashier in a car sales yard. Worked in an adult education organization as typist, cashier, assistant manager and then left to have my first baby. Minister of the Interior for many years bringing up a family and running our home. Volunteer worker with oncology patients (most rewarding) and then landed a job co-ordinating training for new volunteers and liaising between volunteers and hospital staff, scheduling rosters. Love it and the people I work with. Never believed I could stand up in front of a room full of people and talk. Such interesting people on this board! Susan

I've just re-read this thread, and Bryan your jobs are not boring.. ..I think that many of the jobs you all are doing are very worthwhile and caring, and I wonder - if at age 15 I had changed my mind about what I was going to do....where my working life would have taken me....
